Hey guys. Long time lurker and newbie poster. I'm at my wits end and need help. I'm on hour 5 of the Rostra Cruise Control install that supposed to take me 45 minutes...

I have a 2010 Access Cab 2.7L 5-speed. It is PREWIRED for cruise. I connected the stalk with appropriate connections, light comes on in the dash. I went to install the Clutch Switch (I have the Universal one from Rostra) but can't for the life of me find the Prewired Clutch Switch connector.

I have read through every single description/post possible on here and Toyotanation and still can't find it. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE of it since I am too dumb for words. I found a piece that is black with a violet and blue/black wire running to it, but it doesnt have the ability to connect anything to it. There are two white connectors at the top towards the clutch pedal, but both are huge 16 pin connectors that look nothing like the two-prong connector at the end of my Clutch Switch Assembly.

I thought maybe my truck randomly had everything pre-wired except the clutch switch, but I have quadruple checked the ECM connection and Port 21 (for the 2.7L) definitely has a blue wire going into it.

Any help for a dumb newbie is greatly appreciated. Would love a picture of this connection. Thanks guys.

Do you have access to schematics for your truck (i.e., Alldata.com ?). You can then find the wiring plug connector / wire colors and it might point you in the direction you need ....

Any luck with this? I'm in the same boat with the exact same truck and problem.

Pre-wired.. my Cruise light comes on.. but can't find the wire to for the clutch switch. Took it for a test drive anyway and nope, it doesn't work.

    But the light looks good!

OP, if you've found the wire let me know.

Anyone who's done this.. is it a 4 pin connector for the clutch switch? The switch I ordered is only a 2 pin and the only 'free' connector anywhere close to there is a 4 pin. Maybe I ordered the wrong part.

LegitGT.. not sure what pics you're looking for?

The clutch switch in the electrical schematics shows as a 2 pin switch. Single pole, single throw.

    IG1, No2 Fuse >____>Clutch Switch NC Contact>____>ECU Pin # 27.

    Ig1 Fuse>__________>Park/ Neutral NC Contact>___>ECU Pin # 27.

    NC = Normally Closed Switch.

These two switches parallel each other and meet at Pin # 27 on the ECU.

Do you have a link to your schematics? The stuff I've found says PIN #21.

I have an automatic so I'm just adding a comment here. IF the cruise light is on the computer must think all conditions are "ok" for cruise to engage? IF so, Then it should think the clutch is engaged and not in neutral - or it would turn the cruise / cruise light off. I'm wondering if the problem (missing wiring?) is FROM the ECU .....

So I just pulled the E7 on the ECU and I was sure I'd find Pin 21 empty.. nope there's a wire going in there. Blue/black.
I think I traced it back to the 'clutch in' (full travel down) switch. I assume this is for starting and getting into 4lo.

So, can I splice into those wires and run parallel with them with my cruise clutch switch? The way I see it, my cruise switch is normally closed so when the clutch pedal is up, that switch would be open. So no electrons going to pin21. Start moving the clutch pedal down and the switch closes sending a signal to pin21.. at the same time the 'clutch in' switch is free (not pushed in) sending the same signal to pin21. At full travel, 'clutch in' gets pushed in, opening the circuit, and no more electrons to 21..

I think if I splice into those wires I'll circumvent the clutch in for starting (no big deal) and also the clutch in for 4lo (but I think that also has a speed cutoff as well.. anything above 3 km/h and it wont engage anyway, right?).

I'm going to dig around abit further before I do this but it feel right. In theory, if I have my electrons right, I should be able to test this by going for a drive and hold down the 'clutch in' switch and the cruise should engage.

    I'll post further results.

    Ha! That totally didn`t work.

    But plan B did.

Using the wiring diagram from http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/content/250-1836-2009-2013Tacoma.pdf I spliced into Pin 14 at 1C (right at the fuses at the drivers left knee) then ran to one contact on the clutch switch. From the other contact I ran across the cab over to the ECU and spliced into Pin21 at E7 (second from the bottom). Took her for a drive .. and on a straight place I held down on the clutch switch with my thumb then turned on the cruise control. It totally worked! All the functions work just fine and when I let go of the clutch switch it stopped working.

So now I have to clean it up and put everything back together. I`ll take some pictures too.

Here`s some of the links I used to figure this mess out:

No. You can turn the cruise control on, have the light on the dash illuminated, but not "engaged".

I also have an automatic, when I press the brakes and disengage the cruise I still have the Cruise Control light on the combination meter lighted.

It is on, just not engaged or active.

Thanks dude... yeah it's the same switch.. got it to work.

Apparently the 2010 4banger 4wd base model only comes 90% prewired.. I was missing the clutch wire but had everything else!
