Well guys my name is Greg, from Mississippi and new to this page and this will be my first post on here and it's a horrible post to start off with haha. I bought a 2015 Tacoma TRD about 2 months ago and 2 days ago I had a friend accidentally let a 12 gauge shotgun go off into the passenger floorboard and into the cat closest to the motor. With my truck being so new I don't really wanna rig something to fix it so I went by toyota and had them estimate the cat, hole in the floor and carpet, total came out to $2,199.93. My friend said he would pay for everything but there is no way he can fork out two grand like that within a week. So my question is, should I go back with a stock cat ($780) or do something aftermarket that I would want to to eventually anyways?

One of the many reasons your supposed to unload your gun BEFORE you get in a vehicle. Not only is it unsafe, it's illegal.

    -1 for poor hunting practices.

I figure they both learned their lesson. No need to beat him up for it.

That's a lot of cash. I'd check for prices with muffler shops to fix the exhaust. Check Rock Auto, not sure if they sell one for a 2015, not sure if you have a 4 or 6 but, they have ones for an 11 for 168 dollars and 224 dollars.

As for the floor pan. I think I'd clean it up, and put a piece of steel over it and seal it up.

    Any pictures of the damage?

I would not be friends with him anymore. Not only did he mess up your truck, but obviously needs some more training in gun safety. At least the muzzle was pointed at the floor, or some poor bastard would be cleaning up a bigger mess

Been a week or two .

    Welcome OP :woot:
Honestly, I could care less how much it is. A fresh 2015 needs to be repaired correctly and swiftly imo. I'd be fucking livid. Could of easily injured someone...finger on the trigger...pffft rookie.
If he has homeowners, maybe his policy covers acts of idiocy. :notsure:

Sorry for your loss. I'd file a claim with my insurance and let them pay for it. What kind of ammo was it?

Let him work it out. You spent $33,000 and instead of killing himself, you, or someone else he shot $2200 worth of parts.

$2200 or he can figure out who he wants to pay for it, but no way in hell is he going hunting or shooting with me again. What an idiot.

I'd let your "buddy" figure out how he's going to pay for the $2200 damage on his own, if he has any sense you'll be happy to pay that compared to what he could be responsible for from this.

Thanks, well aware of the laws regarding transportation as I have my CCL. However, if he got into the front with a loaded shotgun, I interpret that as "in the act of hunting" and being in a vehicle with a loaded weapon of any kind while "hunting", going to hunting grounds, etc. is illegal.

OAN, since you brought it up. As stated, if you are in the act of hunting, going to hunting grounds, dressed in hunting gear, etc. then you are under this stipulation which means your conceal carry, which can not be loaded when driving while in the "process" of hunting. This rule is in effect to eliminate road hunting which is illegal, in case you were wondering.

Any other "more you know" statements?
