I'd like to mod my mirrors to give me a visual of the turn signals.
It sucks that the signal is right there but the driver can't see it!
Looks like it wouldn't be too hard to do with the light being right there already.
Has anyone had one of these mirrors opened up? How to open it without trashing it?

Muth makes a signal mirror if you don't mind spending a little.

The glass pulls right out if you grab it from the inside and pull.

That sounds good. I just opened a Muth pdf that shows how to pry the mirror out. Not sure if their product would fit the Taco, but worth an inquiry!

    Thanks!

They make mirrors specifically for the Tacoma, I've used them before.

Now what I'm interested in is that back-up camera display inside the rear-view mirror. Looks sick as hell and very helpful/expensive

Good. I guess I'll have to contact them, as what they display doesn't specify models, just says Toyota. $17 sounds like a win to me!

If I'd had a choice, I'd have opted for the mirror display rather than the Entune display, or actually, both would be good! Reason is, the Entune gets sun glare, and is below your line of sight, while the mirror raises your eyes to see all mirrors and leaves no blind spots.

Here's a direct link. They're not even close to $17 dollars though. I wish they were, because I'm considering the heated ones again. I've put them in 2 of my Tacomas already in the past.
I know I can put other ones in for less, but I like the signals, especially if I'm going through all the trouble of putting them in myself.

I'm curious - why would you want the drive to be able to see it? Sounds distracting, I don't get it.

Its actually very nice to be able to see it. It gives a little security that the blinker is on as you're checking the side mirrors during a lane change and the stereo is too loud to hear the blinker clicking.

I used to have it, and really missed it when it wasn't there.

    Plus, it just looks cool.

OK, the $17 item is a simple convex stick-on for the drivers mirror. Sheesh!

The $189 set is not what I had in mind anyway, I was thinking of just drilling a small hole in the signal reflector, and scrape a spot off the mirror silvering to show the light through.

You mean you never left your blinkers on 'cause you didn't see it blinking on your dashboard? C'mon!

You know, you just convinced me. That arrow is visible to a car in your blind spot, whereas the forward facing signal is just barely visible. I'm gonna do it!

I had a loaner while my other car was in the shop this week ... it had flashers on the mirrors, and it was distracting as all hell at night. I hated it.

I might see if you can drive a car with them before you try to add them on.

    How about these then?

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZD6GBA...TF8&colid=3IANWM1M9WOXF&coliid=I1KPGECCL1SZ14

These are like the OEM mirrors that have the lights on the outside of the mirror. They are currently on my Amazon wish list... just need to pay for some other toys I bought first before I can splurge on this set. :)

I was thinking of doing it all in one big blast: these mirrors, the eBay turn signal LEDs, and the heated mirror mod off the RAV 4. Definitely not cheep, but would be an nice mod, no?

The Muth, as advised by AeroCooper, is the mirror only, not the housing. It has the built in signal in the mirror, and replaces the stock mirror. The stock unit already has a forward facing signal, so I anticipate no issues with just splicing on at the mirror housing itself. I might not do it if I have to disassemble the door paneling, though. I'll contact the company for that info and get back here to report to inquiring minds! You guys are great! Thanks for good advice!

Yes, I hooked it right to the forward facing blinker on my 2013. I'm not gonna lie, the wires were small and hard to hook on to, but with a little patience it worked out fine.

You will have to take the inner door panel off, and take the mirror off the truck to disassemble the innards, but it is not hard at all to do that.
