Haha looks like I opened a can of worms.
I have had double cab trucks extended cabs and old school single cabs. Sold my double to get this extended cab. All have good and bad points. For me no kids just 2 dogs and the wife. The extended cab works best me.

I'm partial to the extended cabs because I had owned my Toyota pickup ext cab since I was 16. I have wanted to do the storage box like yours to my rear cab sooo bad. I just need that back seat lol. That is among the coolest mods I've seen done on this forum. And so simple lol

I think re gearing is more for highway driving performance. Lo Range slow driving isn't effected much...I think, could be wrong though.

With a camper shell you can sleep in the 6' ext cab. Not so much in the short dbl cab bed. Unless you get a DCLB AKA Trail Limo.

I've never noticed a problem with the stock gears off road, but I suppose the lower gearing would make the need to switch to 4lo less?

More like it makes 4lo slower, for those of us with a manual transmission the problem is not being able to go slow enough, therefore you ride the clutch to try and slow it down and end up smoking the clutch. Gears will help slow it down but really what is needed is a crawl box or double cases to really slow down 4lo.

    Both.

But my 1st gear lo range now is VERY low after regearing. And that's with 35" tires

You have an auto which makes a difference. Driving a manual on stock 4.10s and 33s through super rocky stuff can suck big time.

Once you get super heavy though gears make a difference with auto trannies.

Thanks man! :) I'm so glad I went with this setup. Makes the truck look like a beast! My rig is a v6. I did notice a loss in power with this setup but keep in mind I also went with steel wheels. Very heavy. Re-gear is on the list, but I can live with the way she performs for now

    Exactly.
Most of the wheeling around these parts is rock crawling. The crawl box is on my short list of mods for sure... It is much better with 4.88's and 35's but still need the tires to turn much slower on some of the really technical sections.

Dry/secure storage is nice, also if I need the topper off my dogs can ride up front. It's also nice to be able to keep stuff up front for longer trips, like coolers filled with beer cause... Knock it back have another one drinking and driving is so much fun...

Once I pull my rear seats and build slide out storage I'll have much more. My dogs would fit but not comfortably, got 3, one 60 lbs and two 30lbs. I've had two people total the entire time I've owned the truck.

I'm not knocking extended cabs, I wanted one but Tacoma's being so hard to find I had to take what I could get. Now that I have the double, I wouldn't want an extended.
