Here's my problem...I am trying to plan a suspension build on my 2014 RC 4x4 and I'm having trouble deciding on the front components. At the moment, I am torn between OME 884s and Billies or coil-overs. My initial thought are coil-overs, but I'm concerned because I read so much about them needing to be "rebuilt". I'm not sure that I want to buy something that needs to be rebuilt frequently.
If I'm being honest, my truck is used mostly on the highway, with probably 60-75 days a year in the woods hunting. I travel some pretty nasty roads, but nothing like hard-core offroading. Washboards, holes, and mud are often the conditions.
Money is really not an issue, but I'm not going to get crazy.

    Let me hear it!

OME would be a great setup for your use

Sounds like alot of good options. DO you have a budget or a lift height?

By the way, the coil-overs that are #1 on my list are the Walker Evans non-resi ones from AllPro. I like those because they are listed as 2"-3.5" of lift, so I figure if I go to about 2 3/4" they won't be pre-loaded so much that they ride rough.

60-75 days hunting a year is a lot. I would get 2.5" COs so that you can get to your hunting spots faster and save a lot of time. Look at King, Icon, Fox, ADS too.

Most coilovers will be fine around 2.5-2.75" of lift.

I believe Icons have the same lift specs. I love my icons.

Honestly if you arent doing anything hardcore OME will be more than enough.. I had Foxes and I never once ran them to even 50% of their potential. People on this site preacher coilovers especially when someone says money isnt a concern. You will be more than fine with OME and it will allow you to spend some money elsewhere on the truck if you so choose.

OME is a great kit and meets most peoples needs but if you have the money then go for coilovers.

I had the money and I bought them.. Stupid reason IMO. Why spend extra money on something just because everyone else thinks its extra cool. If OME will do exactly the same for him for a fraction of the cost, why spend the extra money to have the "bling" factor

Its not just the bling factor. I do think the ride is smoother and being able to adjust them when adding wieght is definitely a plus.

    True.

Really its up to you OP. If you have the extra money and think adjustability and a better ride is worth the extra money, go for it!

Good discussion. I still want to know about the frequency in which I would have to rebuild coil-overs given my general truck use.

Every 20-25k miles should be fine or every other year.

OME wont do exactly the same thing. 2.5" COs are in a different ballpark then OME.

Of course if you are not gonna go faster than 10mph offroad it doesnt matter what you get, may as well stay stock.

Its not a big deal. Shocks have to be replaced too if you go another route.

For his purposes OME will do what coilovers will. I didn't mean in all situations but from what he is saying it'll be fine.
