Sport and O/R have the same bed, I guess you mean long bed on the sport in which case you don't need a sport for a long bed.
    nailed it!

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Off road has the locker, better suspension, seats.

Sport has no locker, but it has a hood scoop that adds 50 more horsepower to the truck! :D

Sorry for some many replays but some info is not accurate such as "seats" as said below which are the same on sport and off road and "better" suspension not so much just different. You may not want the offroad suspension if you don't offroad.

It's amazing to me how often people post repetitive questions on here like (Sport vs TRD?) without first doing a Search or reading product brochures or Toyota website information.

This seems to be tolerated by forum members and when folks, like me, bring this up for discussion...we are immediately shot down.

    enough to go over stuff

The OP has 3 posts. I go easy on the new guys. My first post a few years ago when I just found this site was something like are spacer lifts bad? (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/256188-spacer-kit-mall-crawler.html)

If you want a double cab long bed TRD, then the only option is sport. And yes, I mean real bed as in long bed.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I've owned both, maybe a comparison would be best. I don't off road, yet sometimes I'm on less than ideal roadways.

    1. TRD has better rear locker, no doubt, the SPORT E-LSD sucks even is snow.
    2. suspension on the SPORT never bottoms out, my OffRoad even with TSB springs did constantly, I added RideRites.
    3. Sport has the scoop, turn signals in the mirrors, 16" RWL tires, painted bumpers, and a painted grille shell. I prefer chrome and RWL tires, but I'm old.
    4. SPORT OEM tires suck slightly more than the OffRoad ones, I can't wait till I get to 16,000 and they are shot.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same. If the 6' bed is important to you, as it was to me, SPORT is the only way to go unless you go base model... and chicks dig the scoop and it makes it go faster...LOL.

I just recently went through this same dilemma. I really wanted the locker. Couldn't stand the crome. Still currently own an 01 TRD off road. I went with the sport. Lifted it, put bfg 275/70r17 at ta ko's on. The next investment, an arb locker which is smoother locking and unlocking than the e-locker. It also works in 4lo and 4hi! Perfect for me.

He's right. 17" rims. I liked the looks of them better than the 16" off road rims.

yep, in a prerunner that is used of road at all the TRD OR is the way to go. Who wants a fake scoop anyway. Sport is a pavement queen.

Scottalot and I have similar ideas. Ad an arb locker and it'll look great AND go like hell!

You're right. Off- road has the only locker,,,,,stock. ARB lockers solve that.

Cut the guy a break, he's new to the forum so he's probably getting the feel of it. it is different for a senior member of 3-4 years to post this sort of thing. Another thing is that it seems he hasn't made a decision on what he wants therefore he's looking for personal opinion/preference on both models.

As for me I've always preferred the offroad, color matching is cheaper than buying a locker :) but get what you want and be happy with your choice regardless of what anyone says. Welcome Bud!

The TRD offroads do have a trac which works pretty good at speeds below 5mph. It disengages above that with the locker engaged. The yellow wire mod also works on the front, although its not quite as responsive, but, it doesn't have the mph restriction. You're right though about a front locker. Along with a rear locker is as close to unstoppable as you could get!

Cool, haven't used ATRAC or my rear locker yet. I'd love a front locker, but the ARB ones are right a grand then probably another 500 to install at the least. Someday! :)
