    A fully loaded Russian IL-76 cargo plane...... payload 1 million pounds!!!!
    This really raises the pucker factor....
    Listen to the "controllers" in the tower who are Australian: Ya gotta love it.
    "The Vodka Burner" as the Aussies call it, literally uses every inch of runway.......

    You can HEAR THE CONVERSATION IN THE TOWER. They are incredulous--that it makes it....

    I've never heard of Lift Ratio before- Lift to Drag- and Power to Weight yes...but not lift ratio. Thrust is not a variable in the lift equation...that being said- high gross weight does require more lift to take off...Greater L comes from speed, depending on the other variables.

    the thrust-to-weight ratio of an aircraft is the inverse of the lift-to-drag ratio because thrust is equal to drag, and weight is equal to lift

    example:
    757-200
    thrust 2x42,670 / weight 226000 = .3776

    space shuttle @ takeoff
    = 1.5

    = 1.0043

    4x26,500 = 106000 weight 1000000 = .1060
