This was exactly my train of thought. Pretty sure my stock bottle jack won't reach where it needs to reach now after the bigger wheels and tires. I keep some chunks of wood in the bed "just in case" that might help out, but I know it's not the right solution.

I don't plan on going rock crawling or anywhere I'll need sliders, and just can't justify them. I still have my stock bumpers and step bars, so...

Guess I should bust the jack out one day and try to actually jack it up and see what happens.

+1, this is my daily and don't have the plans to do sliders or a bumper on this guy, on the hunt for a 2nd truck which will be more of a crawling rig. Does anyone know where is safe to jack from on a hi-lift with a stock truck, if there are any good places?

I take my truck to play a lot...mountain biking, hiking, skiing, shooting and want a security blanket in case I slide off or find myself in a deep hole.

 

Also - I have been toying with the idea of adding some recovery points to my truck, on the just in case train. Does anyone have any suggestions? It might be extra caution due to the fact that I don't have a winch or lockers. I try to always go exploring with another truck, and as discussed previously do plan to get either a come-a-long or Hi Lift but want to make sure I can pull from somewhere without causing any damage.

 

The only option is to use a Lift Mate. Other than that, no, because your body panels are not meant to support the body weight of the truck.

Your best bet at this stage is to get an inflatable jack, such as an ARB Bushranger X-Jack, but you have to be careful about popping it.

Consider a PLB and some food as well.
I really should get a PLB...

Get a recovery loop welded to the front frame. The TRD models have a recovery hook as well. I take a small hesitation in recommending it since it is bolted on and not welded, but I think the shear force is probably OK
For the back, get a recovery hitch with a bow shackle (also more commonly, yet incorrectly, referred to as a D shackle) that has a printed WLL of 4 3/4 tons. Here's an example. (note: Winchline.com is typically boutique items that are very spendy, you can find nearly the same stuff elsewhere for much less...)

Great call on the PLB, I have been thinking of getting one for my dog too, he tends to chase deer when we mountain bike sometimes and always comes back but you can never be too careful.

I really like the hitch hook, I'll check em out and also talk to my local muffler guy who builds all kinds of custom fab stuff for a front hook.

That's a mega bummer, I would check with a local detailing shop to see if they could buff it out.

 

I've got a PLB in my Survival Suit that stays on the boat, I've also got one in an ammo can behind my seat... It was cheaper to get a new one then to replace the battery, so the old one lives in the truck.

Just an FYI, I'd think twice about getting one go my dog.. Think it's about a $20k fine for unessecary use..

Finally getting my European mount done.

 

Soak it in Hydrogen Peroxide (over the counter stuff is pretty diluted and safe) for a couple days. It will bleach it without cracking anything or shrinking the bone.

Yup, picking some that up tomorrow. I made the mistake of using bleach on the first couple skulls I did. They've started to flake...

Did the second boil today with baking soda. Almost don't even need to whiten it.
