But those AFEs have cats built in, and they just bolt right onto the stock Y-pipe?

They look like the way to go then. But that price point though

 

After labor and initial cost, I spent about the same amount for my shorties installed.

 

Yup. The cost of the shorties alone, is what most people see and understand. Then they compare that price to that of the long tubes, and believe that they are cheaper.

Unless you have the tools to cut/weld, then the installation of the short tubes is not possible for most, and labor costs will jump that price right up. Then, there is the worry that the shop doing the work won't actually do the work exactly right, amd you'll end up with exhaust leaks and CEL's. Not always the case, but a possibility. This is why bolt-on is easier. Also why most people just purchase long tubes and then swap them out at inspection time.

Or you get the AFe or Magnaflow bolt-on headers, and not worry about it, minus the cost. So just save up a little longer.

No inspections in Idaho so I'm not concerned at the moment. It will come on after a few minutes, and I will clear it will my UG and it stays off.

Too bad you weren't 2012+(dumb air pump rails). I've got a set of BRAND NEW IN BOX set of DT shorties sitting in my storage unit at the moment that I almost forgot about.

 

damn you.. I currently have the Spec U headers.. and I like em.. but I like low end more.. lol

 

You're boosted though, it is affecting your low end that much? I was under the impression that the equal length headers shouldn't hurt the down low too bad, at least not like long tubes do.

 

it could very well be just in my head.. but I swear it feels like i lost some of that low end grunt off the line.. and is now in the 4k-5k RPM range.. it pulls great now tho once its rollin.

 

Come drive my rig around for a while. You won't be disappointed when you go back to yours. haha
