Yes actually! I love it, and it really is that bright of colors, perfect match from website to in hand. I was slightly worried about that, but they didn't let me down. I've actually got two more waiting in the cart to be ordered.

Fuck. I can't resharpen the Helle. Steel is harder than I imagined. Plus my skills are suspect. This might not be the best hunt knife for me. Hate to have it dulled past the point of my level halfway thru an elk.

What are you using to sharpen with? A buddy of mine is using a KME sharpener and holy crap, sharp. Variety of steels too. I have been looking at KME and Wicked Edge to sharpen.

It's a scandi, what are you using to sharpen it with? Scandi isn't ideal for skinning, either, as the edge geometry creates a weak edge. It can get razor sharp but it won't last long.

You should probably convex the Helle, a Worksharp would do it gradually and save you frustration, but remember anything sharpened by a Worksharp or similar will convex itself due to how the sharpener works over time.

Just a bunch of old crap
I've resharpened my Helle with just a Smith's dual sided diamond stone. Gets it right back to arm-shaving sharp. It's all about the angle, how hard you sharpen, and your counts.

Use the Sharpie method to color the edge and when it is removed thats the angle. Make a few passes and mark again until you get a feel for it.

No need for a sharpie on a Scandi unless it has a micro bevel, really, since its basically a zero grind. Make sure the bevel face is flat on the sharpening surface and make sure that surface is flat.

Hmm. My knife might be tainted. Put the edge under a big magnifying glass. Whoa! Not sure it was me.

i swear, my sentence looked better put together on my iphone.

    phew!!

okay, i took my knife to work to let a pro Helle dealer look at it. i have a huge maginfying glass on my desk. beforehand, i took a look. the edge is wasted. tiny serrations. the knife shop took a look and told me, the knife probably got out of the factory like that. probably a factory defect. lucky me!!

on the bright side, the knife guy is cool. he turns vintage kitchen knives into razors. chef's from all over San Francisco were showing up to pick up their tools. he told me he can put my blade back to better than factory.

i barely got out of there without buying a bunch of stuff!! japanese chef knives..a bunch of folders. it was insane.

super cute, petite lady was working this huge japanese sushi knife on a japanese wetstone..everyone in there had their own sharpening station. the sound of steel grinding on wetstones is damn hypnotic.

if the Helle sucks..it will be the most intimidating peanut butter spreader. :) whatever. buyer beware..i should have inspected the edge before i accepted the thing permanently by tossing the packaging.

my next blade? probably a Woodbear knife. nordic bear II.

It's actually the m21 it's a little more pricey but it goes for 70 on there site and I paid 30 lol. I think the blade material is the same it's just got a larger blade. This stupid safety lock crap is annoying as hell though
