What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Nope. It does not.

 

Had the oil changed, I am not crawling under there for the $22 Christian Brother's charges me. They also quoted me $105 labor to change the fuel filter. I furnish my own oil and filters, the reason for the low price.

 

Changing the oil isn't that bad, especially with a 2-3" lift. Also gives me a chance to visually inspect for leaks, damage and check torque on a few select areas. Takes 40 mins I reckon .

Though I will say the oil filter is a pain in the dick.... But you all already know that.

I don't like to pay anyone for service to my truck I can do myself.

 

Got two of the tablet mounts thinking I'd need it... But a single tablet mount holds my 8" tablet very secure... Think it'll hold just fine off road

 

^^^ second time changing my oil yesterday took maybe 10mins. All you need is a 14mm wrench for the drain bolt and something to pry the wheel liner off and easily get at the oil filter. $20 is $20 over time you can save a nice bit of money.

 

Wha? How are you getting that oil filter out without a wrench? I had to by one of those damn retracting universal ones, Napa didn't have the right filter wrench... I'll be grabbing one from toyota parts center next time filters are needed.

Just landed in Phoenix after leaving MN. My truck yearns to drive through those mountains and steppes.

 

If you can't get the filter off with your bare hands, it was probably put on too tight. Another trick that is a bit messy - stab through it with a screwdriver and then use that new handle to loosen it. This causes oil to go onto things though, so I don't recommend it unless you lay down some rags underneath.

Possible. My oil filter leaked once and it pissed me off, so now I am a little firm handed tightening. I of course do NOT use the filter wrench when installing

 

Stealership wants to charge me $2100 to fix the driveshaft in the rear. I said fuck you.
I was having problems with a loud squeal on the front passenger wheel, figured it was either the wheel bearing or the lower ball joint. I never had any problems with the rear, I planned on 4x4 swapping anyways so there'd be no point in forking that kind of cash if it costs around $1k to 4x4 swap anyways. That's with the new trans, cv angles, and all that.

I bet. It's so nice out here. Other than the dry heat of summer. But you get used to it.

 

Filter should not be that tight. Spin filter till it stops then 3/4 turn. Fram filters have some grip on then as well.
