Well was going to schedule my 30,000 mile servicing however after calling the Toyota department I realize they wanted to charge me $400 for a 30,000 mile servicing plus another $400 for a 4 x 4 servicing does this sound right to anybody?

You could do all that in a long afternoon for a few hundred in parts and fluids. Not terribly difficult either. You'd only need a jack for the tire rotation. Everything else could be done on the ground. Plenty of clearance/room to change those fluids.

they are trying to run a dealer specific IQ test on you. if you pay for that you will be considered mentally challenged and possibly taking to a special hospital for further analysis!

    oil change - 40
    spark plugs - 100 - 125 max
    air filter - 20
    front and rear diff - 150 - 180 max
    transfer case - 75 - 90 max
tire rotation - 0.5hrs labour at the the very absolute max but should be free if they are decent at all.

so 500 lets say on the high side for all that... which is still kinda bs imo

and this is what i would pay in canada!

I haven't had mine for service yet (less than 500 miles), but what warranty issues are involved with doing your own service?

Im on my second tacoma and it took 4 delerships to find one I like (Livermore toyota) . I have a delership now that most the staff knows me by name. A few guys follow my build on here and my instagram too. The service manager is the who always works on my truck and they have never complained once about the lift or mods when I ask for any service.

i had my rear diff and transmission replaced with no service records. as long as you don't bring your truck in with milky fluids should be non issue.

Let's see, that would be 80 hrs of work in my current job as transit driver, a week when I was employed as a park ranger with 31 years of service. Seems about right! My local Goodyear dealer would do the oil change w/ synthetic for $30, $20 bucks a tire would upgrade my tires to lifetime balance and rotation(comes with purchase price of tires from them), guessing 40 bucks tops for 6 plugs plus 120 labor seeing it took me two hours 'cause it didn't think the heft bank could be done without removing the upper intake. Changing the the gear oil another $50. Yea it's seems about right, twice what a good independant shop would charge.

So an auto shop should just do all of that work for free just to be nice to you, and the heck with paying it's bills?

Assuming an average of $90 per hour for labor nation wide:
Depending on the services and types needed, the oil change could be between $40 and $90 (depending on if synthetic oil or not of course)
Spark plug change - yeah, I can see $125 if you use cheap platinum plugs.
Air filter- I agree, $20 is about right
Front and rear diff service - Usually priced at .7 hours labor, plus fluid, if done correctly. (not just a drain and fill) so that would be about $126 in labor and say $50 in fluid for both front and rear.
Transfer case - $90 seems about right
Tire rotations are usually about $14.
Total of Between $465 and $500

So $800 may be a bit much, but thinking that $500 is high??? You think we work for free?

If you don't want to do the service yourself, find a good private mechanic in your area.
Save all the paperwork in case there is a warranty issue.
It will be cheaper in the long run and in my opinion, much better service.
