Went to go the truck up today cause I was a little below half tank. Ended up putting 14.5 gallons in it, way more than what it should have had taken. After filling up the needle did not come up to F as usual. After driving it did go down from where it was at as you'd expect. Not sure if it's an issue with the sensor in the tank or the gauge. If anybody has any insight it would be appreciated. My guess is its the sensor in the tank but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Also anybody know where to get a new sensor for the tank?

Truck is an 02 ext cab v6 with 180k miles if that helps any.

I am having a similar issue. Mine seems to have a mind of its own but heres the kicker it only moves crazy when the outside temp is below 40 degrees.. Summertime I never have an issue..

you need to drop the tank or pull off the bed to get to it and pulling the bed is IMHO easier and less work then fighting with draining and pulling the tank and then trying to rehang it after.

it is my understanding the sensor is connected to the fuel pump and are removed and installed together. it is also my understanding that a new fuel pump comes with the new fuel gage sensor already installed so but a new fuel pump with sensor and replace it as a unit.

it doesn't make sense to do all that work to replace just the sensor and maybe have the fuel pump go out later on.
