I would try to get wheels with 4.5" backspace as the 4.3 may not clear the caliper. Other than that I run 285/75/16 in the winter and only rubbed the front bumper at full lock each way so I'm gonna have it cut out the little box on the fender liner on the bumper. I never got a chance to flex out the suspension last year so I'm nit sure if I would need to cut the cab mount since I never rubbed it I don't think I'll need to

Most of that is easy or need to have a shop do. What's going on with the xfer case gasket and the radio?

Not sure what a smaller BS (sticks out from the vehicle more) has to do with clearing the brake caliper. Easiest thing to do is test fit a rim if you can.

Maybe I got bs and offset mixed up for a minute. My XD enduros are 4.5" bs 0 offset and they still sit extremely close to the brake caliper meaning I can barely stick my debit card in the gap. But then again it may just be the design of the wheels since they are a flat face style wheel

Hey guys. I know I've said this a couple times already but I need to get my stock off road wheels out of my garage. I am mounting my 285s hopefully this week or next week. I am willing to sell the off road wheels with my 265/70/16 Yokohama geolander ats tires with them. I am asking 200 bucks wheels only or 300 with tires only downfall is, tires won't be mounted to wheels and they do not come with tpms I will try it find the oem lugs to go along with the wheels as well

Ya. Smaller BS means the wheel moves away from the hub.

Should be able to help with most of that. Mostly a matter of when. Most any Saturday, earliest I can start is around 1:30pm. Most likely could get most of that done in a long evening. The Xfer case output seal can be a bitch if the yoke flange is seized on.

You guys are making me nervous, I just bought wheels with 4.5"BS -12offsets... I don't want to have to keep the spacers.

    Whya the nervous?

BS is the distance of the mounting side of the mounting flange of the rim to the inside lip of the rim.

Offset is the distance of the mounting side of the mounting flange of the rim to the center line of the rim.

If I recall, 4.5" BS is the stock number for 1st Gen and unsure of the BS for 2nd Gens. Any larger BS and you have more rim over the hub, increasing the chance of contact with the tire on the UCAs or frame. Typically, 1st Gen guys running a 285/75R16 go to a 4" BS and 1st Gen guys running 33x12.5 go to a 3.5" BS. 35" and larger need spacers.

Offset is a bit of a shitty measurement because you actually need to know the width of the rim to make any sense of it. That and BS is typically measured in inches and offset in millimeters, mixing two different units systems. Offset mostly tells you the scrub radius and wether you will make contact with the wheel wells. Given the width of the rim and the offset you can also compute BS. BS = 1/2 * rim width + offset (approx.)

I don't care too much about offset. I can make the opening of the wheel well bigger and typically have to if I'm going above a 32" tire. I care more about BS as I don't want my nice new rims gashed up by calipers, tires rubbed away on UCAs or the frame stripped of paint.

If you guys are worried about spacers, then you don't give a crap about offset. You need to figure out the backspacing. You want at most stock (4.5" 1st Gen, 5.25" 2nd Gen) and if going to larger tires you want to start considering anywhere from 4.5" to 3.5" and then spacers.

Tom pretty much hit it on the head, I would only add that second gen OR wheels are 5.25" BS and most 4.5"BS wheels will fit 285s without spacers.

On my 4Runner with 315s I had to add spacers to my wheels which were 4.5"BS.

Thanks, Max. Wasn't sure on the BS for 2nd Gens. I'm surprised they are 5.25" but that gives 2nd Gen guys more options to get frame and UCA clearance.

Been texting SGT Taco and BigFishAllDay. We're looking at doing a full up offroad meet the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov 29th) finishing up somewhere that has good food and drink. Any interest and ideas where to go?

I'm going to be transferring over my 285s onto these new rims 17x9", 4.5" BS... I've been running the stock sport wheels with 1.25"spacers to clear UCAs, etc and just want to take the spacers off.

If I can get these freaking chairs done and my CV boots on both sides fixed I might be down to go.

Outer boots are torn on both and have been for a while. so the joint it dry and is starting to click and bind when turning or when the suspension cycles.

    Soon...

I was playing around in my backyard testing the function of a relay for my front locker. Needless to say, it didn't seem to engage and my rear end got bound up three wheel drive and snap. It was a drive shaft I made for the highway, the part that twisted was using thin wall tube. Guess I'll go for some thicker tube for the replacement.

looking to be pointed in the right direction...

heading down to NM to do some thanksgiving exploring...heading down thursday coming back saturday maybe sunday

looking for cool things to explore and places to camp...not looking for crazy trails...more off road the better though and less tourists (besides me) the better :D

    looking for:
    ruins
    rock art
    old cowboy or ranching relics
    mines
    unique sites and landscapes
great camping (not at camp sites...get me away from people :D )
many miles of dirt in between
trails through canyons would be a bonus as well (seen many reports where people are crossing the creek/river with high walls... chaco? monticello box?

coming down from denver...so preferrably in the northern section, but for cool shit, we'll continue south and west...

    options i've come across already:
    continential divide trail
    rio grande del norte
parts of the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro
    chaco canyon area and outliers
    pueblitos of dinetah
    monticello canyon
    san lorenzo canyon

    thoughts?
