    Hey all,

I have been researching suspension kits like crazy and trying to go through everyone's mountains of info and opinions to decide (1) is it right for me? and (2) if I purchase the King OEM Package from Downsouth Motorsports, am I all set to go?

So here is my thought- I live in Montana where I drive a lot of rough dirt roads for various reasons, but I do a fair bit of highway time to get to them. I had a Bilstein 5100 kit in my last Tacoma and after you put 4 guys in it and even just a few things in the back it would bottom out something terrible on any reasonable bump. So, I want something that will be smooth on the dirt roads but not totally squishy on the pavement. (someone on here said they experienced a lot of "roll" when taking corners, gave their wife a little uneasy feeling in the stomach)

My next question is with buying this kit, is it really as easy as bolt it on and your good to go? Resovoir suspension systems are a new beast to me and it would be nice to keep things pretty simple or maybe get help from a local shop. I'm sure you can spend a lot of money on these systems and without knowing all of it's functions, make it feel like crap. I wasn't sure if it may still be smart to get a new rear leaf spring setup as well, Dakar perhaps? Or with this suspension kit would I just leave the stock on?

Anywho, I would love anyones thoughts. Someones best advice was go ride in a truck with that same kit but sadly I don't have that luxury! Unless someone in Bozeman, MT wants to go for a cruise...

    Thanks everyone in advance!

Here is a link to the kit for reference-

Look into a setup without resis and you can save some money. That setup or most any 2.5" coilover will do really well offroad on crappy rutted up dirt roads. I have Icons set at about 2" lift and the body roll is no big deal. You could also save money and keep your stock UCA. For rear a 3 leaf aal should be good unless you want a new full pack.

Thanks for the advice- are you saying maybe look into something more simple like an OME lift? Or just something without resis? I'm guessing your Icon setup is without resis in that case.

Yeah I mean still get coilovers just ditch the resis. The guy above linked the setup I have its a great setup. Then for the rear get a 3 leaf AAL and you should be good to go. If you want more lift in the back or plan on having a lot of weight in the bed often get Dakar leaf pack or All Pro leaf pack.

There is also the option of extended travel coilovers that give an extra 1" wheel travel but that requires upgraded UCAs for about $400-500.

For the front I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket control arm. The uniballs will rust in no time anyway. Get a 2.5" King coil over and call it a day. They only come with a resi though.

I wouldn't do the add a leaf if your looking to have weight in your truck. Get a full replacement leaf pack like All Pro or OME Dakar. Just get a rear shock that is long enough for the leaf pack you buy so you don't rip the shocks apart.
