Pretty! Why are the four diagonal support beams gapped like that instead of just side by side? Is it a drainage thing or does that make it stronger?

    What's the wood on top?

I decided after living in this house for almost four years I would finish the crown on the cabinets. I should finish the kitchen tonight and just have the lower soffit and the crown on the cabinets in the laundry and master bath.c9fb94e91c2d516173ed0d8eace38cc0_73e7774ec8d491e6d06efc5770c1a9f7cf65a1c7.jpg

I haven't finished screwing it off yet , I just did every 3rd or 4th joist now to keep the decking straight , I'll screw it all off at the end but you can see how discreet the heads are in the pics

    Putting plugs in later?
Just finished up a trex deck and I think the plugs took longer to do than the decking.

And before you build a high end router table check out shapers. For not much more than you would spend on lifts motor and table you're at the cost of a shaper.
I added a router to my table saw set up and bought the shaper before I added the lift. I rarely use it anymore. The shaper is just so much nicer to use, and set up.

What finish product do you use to protect the cedar from wear and the elements?

    Question about installing crown molding:

I have researched a bit on the internet, and cant seem to find a straight forward answer. I have attached a picture of one of my upper cabinets, and also one of a x-section of the crown molding. I am a bit unsure on how and where to attach the molding to the cabinets. Do I just pick a height that covers the top edge and run then all along at that height, or am I supposed to attach a block to the top of the cabinet and install them to that?

Also, in the picture of the x-section, I'm guessing the upper right portion of the picture is the side I attach to the cabinets? (since it has a longer flat section I could use the nail gun on).

And Finally, in the picture of the upper cabinet, I have to run a pice of molding along the face of the cabinet, and one along the side, which ends at a wall. The problem is that the face of the cabinet has about 1/8" overhang, and the pieces wont be flush. Any insight?

    Thanks

Where the face frame is wider than the sides I notch the faceframe so the crown in flush with the side.

On actually hanging the crown and the need of blocks it depends on the size of the crown, and construction of the cabinets. A solid wood faceframe will hold the nails easily, a particle board side probably won't.
