I think 100k is a better figure to use. At 500k both will be crap and user use will overlap with manufacturing mistakes.

Buttom line is that i would not pay 40k for either :p

    Perhaps 200k?

I'd buy a used Taco with 200K on it in a heartbeat. Hell, I might be this weekend, actually.

Would YOU think about paying for a Chevy with 200K on it? I sure wouldn't.

TBH.. I expect 250k+ from my truck, which is why I baby it and got the I4 4x2. With the second car, a Chevy, I hope it makes 150k.

This is what I elude to when I mention Toyota's perceived durability/longevity. For all I know the Chevy will outlast the Tacoma, but in no way would I bet a dollar on that being true. But who knows, crazy things happen everyday. I got a Toyota because I want cars that will drive 10 years or more with ease. GM seems like a great car if you cut it loose after 4 or 5.

Yet still these trucks are too big.Parked next to a Tacoma makes the Toyotas look small.

Honestly I see midsize market to continue on a downward slide..fullsize trucks are what people are into right now. In my area Ram trucks are selling like crazy, the price is right and you get hemi power. Gm re entered this game to late, I don't see the rado doing well and the new Tacoma I feel will make for some disappointed Tacoma fans. As most have said pricing is the key..why pay 40k+ for a midsize when you can purchase a fullsize for the same or less.

Given the domestic depreciation, a Chevy with 200k would be $2,000. If it was the duramax, I'd probably choose the $2,000 Chevy over the still $10,000 Tacoma complete with rusted frame, flat leaf springs, and vibrations

That said, I bought a 4runner with 240k on it and torture it in the middle of no where running trails solo, now with 252k.

One thing to consider though is that 200k is pretty far away for any new truck and there'll be plenty of time to demonstrate whether they've stepped up their game. No one wants to be the guinea pig though driving one off the lot. Same shit might happen with the new Tacoma... but then again, they'll probably be offering up the 2.7L and 4.0L with LUK clutches.

How is it too big? Because it makes the competition look little?

I'd love a 6-8" bigger cab and a 6-6.5 ft bed in my Tacoma.

IMO ease of parking (what, 5 seconds saved?) and agility off road (what, 5 times a year?) isn't worth sacrificing what full size trucks offer, especially when the price is so similar, and the fuel economy is equal to or greater than a 4x4 2.7L Tacoma. Plus, who hits level 5 -low end- trails in a new truck... (don't answer that question).

I guess it was easier for me to get a full size since I do have a trail vehicle, but fuhhh man I'm 10x more comfortable, can drag 7,000 lbs through Wyoming winds, and average 8-12mpg better than my 4 banger did. Not like you're entirely worthless off road either, just have to make better judgement calls with line choice.

Never had a problem parking something before unless I was pulling a trailer, and a DCLB isn't much different than a full size ext cab I'd think. Both are easy to park IMO. Not like parking an Accord, but I've never had to try a parking space more than once.

An F550 super crew with 16' utility bed pulling a triple axle toy hauler was a challenge, but outside of towing, if you know where your front passenger side ends and rear passenger side ends then parking is easy.

size is an issue because at some point there is a blurred line between full size and midsize, the price difference between the two, gas milage differences, etc...

my estimation is that full size trucks will keep getting bigger, mid sized trucks will continue to get bigger, and eventually a new segment of compact pickups will enter the US market.

Full size keeps.getting. bigger and so does midsize, so.you're likely onto something. I dont think the next Tacoma redesign will be the same size as the current model.

    Yeah.

Every time I get in my Sierra, I miss my Tacoma a little less.

I had a non-ZR2 blazer and absolutely loved it. I always wanted a lift and bigger tires to mimic a ZR2 setup but never got around to it before the body rotted out (it was 12 years old)

I would have preferred an electronic locker instead of the clutch based G80 differential they have in there.

With that being said the Taco OffRoad isn't perfect either. I really would love a front locker option from the factory but obviously we can't always get what we want from a stock vehicle.

If they could stop putting their shock mounts so low...that'd be greaaaaat.

I kind of already don't know if I trust the Colorado. Went to the Chevy dealer because I wanted to look at one to see what all the hubbub was about. They had zero on the lot. So went over and asked them why and when they were getting any in. They said it's because "they only release a handful at a time to each dealer just in case there's a recall. It's easier than trying to find thousands to fix so they only put out a few at a time."

AKA they are not confident enough in their product to put it out there completely, they basically hinted that it's destined to fail.

Everyone else has tons of 2015s on their lots already.

And not so close to the rear leaf pack? ;) Looks like the rear shocks are 2.0" remote-resi units and can't go to 2.5" because there's no room. Note the DEF tank behind the axle.
