    I've seen a promo for this too. Alaska is very hot in reality TV now, everything from buying houses to State Troopers. I've never been, and I wonder how "real" they portray it?

    I blame the tourism industry more. The AK economy has three staples - oil, seafood, and vacations/tourism. And they'll take any opportunity to promote AK and bring people up there

    Like all reality TV it's real, but focuses on a lot of stupidity and you don't always get the whole story, like any other reality show. But I don't watch them regularly, so that might just be my impression and opinion.

    I can tell you the Trooper's (officers personally) weren't given any choice in the matter. I met Howie Peterson and his family two Summers ago; we camped next to them at Deep Creek for a few days while we were launching the zodiac off the beach to go halibut fishing. He actually went to court to get out of doing the show and still keep his job. I guess the "fame" had him worried about the safety of his family. From talking to him, it didn't seem like he enjoyed the experience at all.

    For the record though, helluva a nice guy and true Alaskan.

    Troof.

    No more trooper show though.
