    I should have taken mine off a while ago but I was in denial that camping season was over! Then the cold snap hit and I was afraid to mess with it in case the cold made the travel cover brittle or anything.

    I took mine off a month ago thinking it'd be snowing by now. But it hasn't and it's been in the upper 30s to mid 40s. I could have been using it this whole time :/

    How the hell do you get 20mpg? I don't even get that with it off. 16.5 mpg is what I am getting on average.

    Trip down to Utah I was getting about 19.6 consistent, trip from Seattle to Bham a few days ago I got 20.2

    240 miles to a tank if I'm lucky. I refuse to believe that anything higher than that is possible on a dclb with bumpers and armor and decent sized tires.

    right? i drive much gentler than most, and i still only manage 18mpg. with the truck stock i was seeing 19 at MOST.

    damn manual trans.

    Again, I'm 4 Cyl, 4.88s and 255s..

    I keep my highway speed to right at 70 mph. Even by increasing to 75 mph, I see a loss of about 2 mpgs

    i knew the 4cyl part. i cant complain about my gas mileage, i know why it is what it is (285s and manual trans) but im still jealous of anyone in the 20s.

    priorities, right?

    i think im going to leave my RTT on this winter. it doesnt affect my mileage and unless i need to haul my bike its not in the way of anything. maybe itll help keep my planted on the snowy mountain too.

    I knew the 255 but I forgot the 4cyl part.

    Part of my reasoning is that I know I'm taking a long drove to Idaho in Dec. I don't need the rtt and will have a bunch of snowboards/skis.

    Could be different with the 2nd gen truck since it a bit bigger but I consistently get close to 300 miles per tank. That's with bumpers, armor, tent and 33's and stock gears. But I'm a 1st gen and I'm mostly on highways.

    Yeah, and your commute is pretty flat, I'm guessing. Do you reset the mpg every fill up?

    Not necessarily every fill up. I'll leave it running for the duration of trips. But yes my commute is relatively flat but I'm getting almost the same mileage on the 4 hour drive to Moab that includes canyons and the truck fully loaded. On our last trip I averaged 17.8 mpg (according to the ultragauge) and had the whole family and was pulling my trailer. Still got like 280 miles on the tank.

    I think the fuel economy on my truck is extremely fortunate and not exactly common. But I won't complain. I do think that driving style has A LOT to do with it. Also my tent is mounted level with the roofline so I don't have extra drag from the RTT.

    Yeah I get pretty good mileage on long trips, probably a shade under where you are. Either way it's pretty sweet, beating the factory mpg rating with the 33's and additional weight :)

    My tent is a little higher than yours, it has a little effect for sure. Took that and the spare off my rack, notice a big performance gain haha

    offtopic, sorry... can regearing actually improve fuel economy after stepping up the tire size? i had just expected to put bumpers, tent, and tires on this thing and watch my gas mileage plummet!
