So camping in November a day ahead of our first real winter storm was maybe a bad idea. Warm enough but I fear the winds may tip my truck over soon. :/

It's not a short bed, the AC has the normal 6' bed.

It was originally for a 1st Gen Tacoma. It stretches just enough to fit a 2nd Gen. I purchased it from a guy who sold his 1st Gen for a F-150, then needed to sell the tent to pay for repairs. It's a Napier Truck Tent, but not sure of the model or when it was made.

I usually come back from camping weighed down just as much as when I left. While food and firewood were consumed on site, I try to pack home as much trash, especially other people's, as I can. Leave no trace, make it better than when you found it.

The GF and I spent a couple nights up on the rim above Sedona, AZ. recently. We went all the way up to the scenic vista lookout atop Schnebly Hill Rd. and then took FR153A back along the rim for about a mile or two.

The picture shows our camp on one side and the view looking the opposite way. Probably one of the best spots I've found in the area; even had 4G coverage.

How many stakes are involved in that set up? What happens when the ground freezes and you can't secure anything?

Yep! I am pretty happy with it right now.

What? Why would the ground freezing stop me from driving a stake into it? People use these on lakes when ice fishing.

I think you have the option of 16 total. You don't need to stake that many in though. I think I had 8-10 in today since I forgot some back home.

As for snow and sand, I know Kifaru suggests using sst pins. Pretty sure they are just longer stakes to provide better anchoring in soft environment such as sand and snow.

Just figured the tent stakes would end up looking lite pretzels if you try to pound them into frozen ground :notsure:

Anywho....for those of you with camp chef stoves help me out! Mom and dad have decided that they want one and I think that is what I will get them for xmas. anyone know of any good deals? i've been cruising through the black friday ads but haven't found anything promising yet. they just want a 2 burner and a bbq box.

Nope, the stakes go in just fine. Getting them out after the ground warmed and then froze again was another story. I have stakes in my backyard from my first pitch . I need to take a torch to them and unfreeze them.

I picked up some gutter spikes and I prefer those for frozen ground now. The guys that put it on ice said they used nails. It seems some people had trouble with that and have talked about bringing a screw driver and screws for ice fishing.
