Thinking wheel bearings for the cyclical noise...but what about the topping out feeling?

The more i read the more it sounds like you don't have enough down travel. From what,I'm reading with a 3in lift yout have roughly 1 in of down travel not sure if that's right can't pin point a 100% answer but if so then there's your problem

Jack it up and let both front tires hang, then jiggle the ever loving shit out of everything under there. Might be wheel bearings, so try to move the tire by pushing in at the top while pulling out at the bottom. Also check the tie rod ends and steering for play. This will make all kinds of funny noises. If all else fails, take it to a pro.

Can you elaborate on this? Topping out on what? What two parts are making contact and causing the noise? Is this something to worry about? Only seems to happen when going fast... And on square drop offs.

    Sure it's the front?

I hit the bump stops in the back on one bridge transition here, even when the truck is empty, if I'm going 40+. People who have ridden with me assume it's the front, but it's definitely the back. Of course, I have the stock non-TSB springs on a double cab long bed so my rear suspension is pretty soft.

I'm thinking you have a lack of down travel because of the lift for that big of a drop. Not sure the exact measurements off the top of my head but with a 3 inch lift and stock upper control arms you probably have about 2 inches off droop before your suspension is maxed. This is probably causing the noise you are hearing going off a 3 to 4 inch drop because your tires are briefly leaving the ground.

Could be an excuse to get uca's and extended travel coilovers.

essentially the downtravel of the front suspension with 5100's is limited by the binding of the upper ball joint, and not the end of the stroke of the shock. The binding of the upper ball joint on the stock UCA is a much harsher stop than the topping out of the shock.

Now if you have aftermarket uniball UCA's then that shouldnt be the issue.
