Moving to Houston!!

I've now lived most of my life in TX because it's a great place to work. I never vacation here; I always leave. Clearly your financial situation should be better, but I have managed to avoid Houston like the plague (and I'm in the oil/gas business) my entire career. When I retire, I'll go back to CO.

Do you know what mildew is? You will... Oh, and the cockroaches in Houston are epic! Ever seen fire ants?

 

Yes they are! When you buy a bottle at the club. All the two leg roaches come to your table.

 

Bakersfield to Houston...Oil and Gas? I spent most of my time in Texas in Midland. Bakersfield is similar in climate. Hot and dry.

 

Yes..going from a field team office straight into the corporate office..so I feel very blessed.

I travel to Houston twice a year..so I am familiar with the weather. I am looking forward to some rain and some good storms.

 

The bugs will take some getting used to..better stock up on bug spray I guesa.. :/

 

We have them in Dallas too, but you can ride them there. Hopefully $76 oil doesn't last. On a positive, it's good to be in the oil business in TX. People won't hate you.

 

I am just torn at the moment..I am the original owner..I have done all my own fabrication..blood sweat and tears for my truck..but I have had it for approximately 10 years now..so I just want the new technology and comfort..

Plus I really dont know how much time I can dedicate to keeping up with the maintenance because (my wife and kids and I) will be exploring..and just trying to take in everything Houston will have to offer.

My contract is a 3 year minimum..so it might be just a whole new life style for us..new town..new house..new truck? The possibilities are endless..

 

I will look into Pearland a little more now..I should be heading out the to house hunt in a few weeks!!

Yeah, Pearland/Friendswood/Clear Lake/League City......I live south of these spots...down here near Santa Fe, Texas...nice and country-like! Seen bunches of Tacomas down here and at work, well.....I've counted about a dozen!

What are the smog requirements for Texas? Any?

 

His life sucks. It's Houston.

 

I believe they are the same as federal. You will need to get an inspection in your county of residence every year. More of a function check, ODB and dyno, than a compliance check.

You will love to have your LT in Houston, it will be nice and cozy on the shitty roads around bellaire. Check out braeswood/myerland, they have older homes with garages and you would be 10-15 mins from the office. Before my parents moved to magnolia (about an hour from bellaire) they lived on maple st right on the line of bellaire, same exact style for the older homes and a fuck ton cheaper. There is also an older neighborhood getting ready to boom if you want to invest, check out around 610 and TC jester (north on TC) my sister bought a house in there and her property has already gained value in the year she's been there.

 

In Houston you'll have to pass a smog test. Not hard. Just a scan for obd2 cars and tailpipe sniffer dildo for older. Nothing like some of the crazy CA stiffing i hear of. Heck i put the urd o2 simulators on both my toyotas and passed.

 

Welcome to Texas. I live in Cypress, traffic on 290 has gotten really bad from what it use to be because the area keeps growing. I don’t mind too much I work just outside of Houston, have a 10 mile commute each way. As far as homes & suburbs, prices keep climbing(all Houston area), but still cheaper then Cali. I like Cypress, Katy is nice too. I haven’t been much in Pearland area, so can’t really say. This is a good website for home searching here in Houston. http://www.har.com/

As far as your truck, you will be ok. If you wanted to sell it, be better doing in Cali.

Yea HAR has provided a few options..I will be out there in about 2 weeks to do some house hunting.

Looks like I am keeping my rig!! Working on the bed cage as we speak.

I do work for Chevron. I am going to be working for Base Business in the DOT group as a HES specialist..

 

Think I'll pass with my Doug Thorley long tube headers and K&N off road CAI and 2 cats taken off? With no muffler?
