All: Just purchased a 2015 4X4 Double Cab Long Bed and took it on a 700 mile drive. Suprisingly I averaged 21.6 mpg. High was 22.4 and low 21.2. Had the bed loaded with about 300 lbs of stuff on the first half. Found out that tire pressure was only 25psi for the first half of the trip and filled to 42psi for the return. Much better than my old Dakota. That V6 only avergaed high 17's at best. So far loving the Taco.>>AJ

With my 2013 DCSB 4x4 I averaged 19 hwy and 17 city. My new 2013 4x4 taco with 285/70/17 and a 2" lift gets 13.5 city and 15 hwy. These trucks are horrible on mpgs. Throw on big tires and a lift and you're screwed. However, if you want MPGS get a car right?

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
That's amazing you're getting those kind of numbers with a brand new engine. With my 2011, it got horrible mileage until about 2500 miles and then it gradually started getting better as it loosened up more and more. That truck was a 4 cylinder and I only got 12mpg for the longest time.

    Best I had 2011 DCSB was 21.5

19.5 is the worst I've had so far.

    No lift, stock size tires.

No the 25 psi tire pressure didnt trip the TPMS. I was suprised myself. Not sure what pressure the TPMS is set to trigger the light. AJ

42 PSI on stock tires?

Isn't the recommended 29 PSI? Also, isn't the max PSI on the tires rated at 35?

I run about the same MPG in mine, I keep my tires at ~32psi a little above the door sticker...your TP light was set to the lower PSI that's why it didn't come on. You can/supposed to reset it, the button is below your steering wheel (follow procedure in the manual) 42 seems kind high though

Fyi max psi on the stock TRD or tires is 34.... Not sure what the base / TRD sport stockers are but I doubt much more that that. Don't go over that!

Either way yup if you cruise at 65 or less you can get those numbers pretty easily.

TPMS works off of a 25% loss from last reset (button under dash), so it varies, plus allows for different front/rear pressure. Suggest you try what door sticker has, which varies a little bit by model, should be in the neighborhood of 29-32 for stock tires. 42 might cause abnormal wear, ie center of tire wears more than the edges. 42 may also affect your handling, especially in wet conditions. Toyota doesn't specify a "max" pressure, but the tire manufacturer DOES - check tire sidewall.

I checked the tire rim and the max pressure was 55 psi so I thought 42 was a good level. I'm going off memory but I believe these TRD Sport tires are 265/65-17 so they are a good size tire. Modern low rolling resistant tires are designed to take upwards of 100psi. Not saying these are low rolling resistant tires but they can handle more pressure than what is recommended on the door frame. In my old Dakota I ran tire pressure at 42psi with a max rating of 45psi and those tires lasted for 80,000 miles. Just my opinion but I believe the tire pressure indicated on the door frame is too low. AJ

What elevations do you drive at? Do you drive on any hills or is it mostly flat?

The best mileage I can manage with my 2014 4x4 regular cab is just over 22. I would have thought the DCLB would get at least a few mpg less seeing as how they are nearly twice the size.

The trip was from Elkton Maryland to Moneta VA. Mostly flat terrain until you hit VA which has rolling hills. I had to take it out of overdrive on a few of the sizable hills. AJ
