Had a baby on the way, my '85 pickup was only a 2 seater. Full sizes were too big and wouldn't fit in my tiny a$$ garage. I'm a diehard toyota fan so I had to go with the double cab tacoma.

    Thanks,

    Brett

^ Same here. Considered an F150 but it would take up too much room in the garage. Would have considered another Sport Trac if Ford still made them.

Also, pretty sure the no frills Tacoma will be more reliable than a Ford. Regarding no frills, why doesn't Toyota illuminate the window and door switches like all of the other manufacturers?

On my 2nd 2nd gen. It's the perfect homeowner sized truck. Plus can't beat the reliability and resale value.

Needed a reliable winter vehicle to replace a car I returned after the lease was up and a truck to replace my 94 F-150 with 300K. The Tacoma met both requirements. Its reliable and the size of my 94 F-150.

I always planned on owning both my 2002 VW GTI and a Toyota Tacoma. I wrecked my GTI and hydroplaned into the concret barrier about a year ago. Since my car was totaled I decided to purchase a 2014 Toyota Tacoma double cab 4x4 short bed. The resale value is ridiculous so decided to go brand new. I wanted a truck that was reliable and could fit in a garage. I also wanted to explore the outdoors more since it was very difficult to that in my old GTI. Now the Tacoma has been good to drive in town but really sucks driving on a windy highway. For trips like the highway I really do miss my GTI. I plan on keeping my truck till it is run to the ground.

A few months ago, I sold my beloved 1997 T100, which required nothing but normal maintenance in 100,000 miles and 16 years of service, including snow plowing.

I bought a 2010 Potiac Vibe AWD, which is really a Toyota Matrix. 60,000 miles on it, zero issues.

However, I missed my T100 almost immediately after selling. The Tacoma is as close as I could get to my old T100. Hope it treats me as well. Ordered 7 November with delivery around Christmas.

First owned a '78 Toyota SCLB, then a '03 DCSB and after an F150 screw, I figured out that a '14 DCLB would be my ultimate truck. It is... Why? Good resale, reasonable price, fits perfectly in my garage, large enough back seat, I can sleep in the back, decent mileage, tows my boat, the LB rides like a limo on the highway. (just to name a few reasons) It has all the features of an SUV like a 4 runner for example but with a longer wheel base and a larger cargo capacity.

I wanted a smaller 4x4 truck after I sold my full size Diesel Chevy. Toyota and Nissan are the only manufacturers of smaller trucks right now. I don't like the Nissan sheet metal and the Toyota has more aftermarket support.

I had a first gen, 1997 basic and 4cyl. It had no guts but it lasted over 310,000 miles even though I abused it.

I started looking across the board for a mid size truck that looked good and would last. All the other makes out there had a crappy stupid look: nissan, honda, ford, chevy.

Toyota Tacoma 2nd gen hands down looked the best across the board. None other like it.

Plus it had the name. I know my v6 Tacoma may need some work now and then, called "oil, air filter, spark plug, belts" but that's it. It's gonna last a long time.

Wanted a truck that is reliable, seats 5, still fits in the garage, keeps its value and can go places...can pull a jet-ski (that's all I need really)

I'm on my third Toyota truck. Started with a 92 T-100 Long Bed, that went to about 265,000 then got a 2wd 08 Taco which didn't last long till I moved to the mountains, sold that and now have my 06 V6 4x4. Tacoma I think is the best and one of the only "Midsize" Trucks, they hold their value like CRAZY and are extremely reliable.

Agree with both and I needed 4wd. It took a lot to buy a foreign car after being raised in Detroit but Ford has priced the F-150 way too high. 42K with the employee discount! No thanks. I'm not going to bash the reliability of Ford because my 2wd F-150 took everything I threw at it and it was barely getting broken in at 103K miles. The Taco was affordable, fits in my garage, and has stuff like locker and ATRAC that I will actually use. Plus the Taco will fit on the trails I can drive on now that I moved to the mountains.

I actually never wanted a truck much less a Tacoma at first. I got out of the military and thought who the hell needs a truck.

So I bought a Toyota Yaris because it gets good gas mileage and it suited my needs. Then one day I saw a modded out Tacoma driving around and it's kinda like when you hit puberty and you see your first hot girl and fall in love.

Well I fell in love and I finally bought my Tacoma in 2013. I needed something bigger since we were having a little kiddo and the Tacoma suited all my needs. Not to big, but still a truck and a reliable one at that.

    Haven't regretted purchasing it since.

my dad used to wheel with a couple guys that had older yoters and swore they were the best, could do everything his bronco could do and more being smaller. a mint 2009 regular cab popped up at the local dealership and i got a little excited. reg cab models are not sold in canada unless they are used and imported. this one was promoted as toyota certified and all that crap, i just had to have it. even though the sale did not go smooth as the dealer wouldn't honor toyota financing rates or sell an extended factory warranty because it was an american truck... the reg cab worked for me cause of the short wheelbase and no need for a bunch of seating. also didn't want a jeep as i was wheeling a suzuki before the tacoma. then my x gf got all pissy saying it sure isn't a family vehicle, i suggested there may be a reason for that!

Have owned pickup trucks most of my life. Learned to drive in my Dads '74 Chevy pickup. In high school, I got a used 1979 Chevy Scottsdale 20 that I had for 10 years. Wanted a 4X4 so I got a 1989 Ford F250 and kept it for 15 years. After getting married, I had the Ford and my wife had a 1988 Honda Accord. We sold both the Ford and the Honda and purchased a 2004 Nissan Sentra. In late 2005, we got our 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We sold the Sentra and my wife got a 2009 Nissan Cube. In 2007 we got our hands on a Casita 17' travel trailer so I got the HiHy all set up for towing with 7-pin wiring and a trailer brake controller. The HiHy does a nice job of pulling our little trailer but the local CAT scales show us to be about 200-300 pounds below the 3500 pound tow limit of the HiHy. With our two dogs, there is not much room left to bring along other stuff we would like. A year ago we started thinking about getting a truck again. We first looked at the Tacoma and thought it was nice. We checked out the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 offerings. We were almost ready to spring for a Tundra but we needed to save up a little bit more. A few months later, we both decided it was time to retire from full time work so the thought about getting a truck kind of went away. Two months ago while driving home from work, we saw a Tacoma on the road and she said "I wonder if that would work for us"? I got all excited again so off to the local dealer lots we went to look at the Tacoma again. After a few weeks, we wanted one. We decided not to get the TRD package as we already have a Polaris RZR for the serious off road stuff. The SR5 V6 4X4 with towing package will work great towing our little trailer. We'll have plenty of room in the bed to bring along all the other stuff we want to bring while the dogs can have the back seat to themselves. Call us fuddy-duddy old farts if you want to - we wanted the Sand Beige interior. A rare truck indeed. We thought about Super White but then we saw a used Pyrite Mica and decided we wanted that color with the Sand Beige interior. Finally, a local dealer was able to locate a truck exactly like we wanted. We sealed the deal and drove our new 2015 Tacoma home Saturday evening. Perfect timing as we had saved enough to pay for it without financing anything. We're going back this weekend to get the chrome tube steps and door sill protectors installed. I just love having a pickup truck again and the Tacoma is just the right size! We'll most likely keep it pretty much stock. I do want to get a tonneau cover like the Extang Trifecta and maybe some seat covers. The dealer threw in the all weather floor mats for us. Need to get another trailer brake controller and lower the ball a couple inches on our WDH so we will be ready to go camping this summer. We'll see how long the OEM Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 tires last before looking into something a little better. Other than that, we plan to enjoy many years driving our Tacoma as we will both be retiring soon.
