Diff lock is bad ass

I have had an 1987 Mazda B-2600 4x4 for over 10 years. It was a good truck and I occationally took it places that were more suited for a 4 wheeler. There were a few occations that I got stuck in a sittution in which opposite front and rear wheels(right front and left rear) were left with no traction, leaving me stuck.

Well, I have had my PreRunner a month now and finnally decided to test its ability to nagotiate a small ditch at an angle. This would have left a regular 2wd and possibly a 4x4 truck stuck because one of the rear wheels wasn't even touching the ground. This condition often leaves the opposite front wheel with no traction. Well, my truck drove out of there with ease thanks to DiffLock.

I am very impressed with this feature.

 

Yea, my '87 had 183K miles when I sold it last week. I had it for 11 years. It took me two weeks to finally decide to sell it. I drove it very little cause I almost always drove my Camry.

Haha, I had a '87 B2600i 4x4 and it went everywhere I took it with no problems. I just couldn't keep the motor from blowing head gaskets.

 

I want to be clear. I wanted a 4wd when I was looking for my recent truck, I just didn't want to fork out another $3-4 for one in as good of shape as the one I bought. I settled for a PreRunner with a Difflock and I am content with it for my needs.

A 4wd with a locker is even more badass.

 

I had head gasked trouble too. I had a cracked head welded up and then later on had trouble again and put on a new head. The last 6 or 7 years were trouble free...as far as the head is concerned.

If I had a choice between 4wd and DiffLock, I would rather have a 4wd. You feel better now?

 

Can you tell me what does Rear Lock DIff do ? I just got myself 2010 Tacoma TRD and I am soo confused with all these New buttons. Also this is my first truck.

I also wish my 4x4 had a diff lock but at least I have 4x4 right..........

 

It locks the differential in the rear axle so that both tires will turn at the same rate of speed.

So is it worth it to have a lockrite or another locker for a 2 wheel drive like my prerunner? I want to get one but its only 2 wheel dr and I dont want to spend the money if it's not going to do much.

 

i wonder if you could put a locker on an 87 corolla? haha cause my friend tries to "offroad" in that thing more than i do in my TACO!!!

How much money would it be? It is one of those things that you normaly wont need unless you put yourself into a situation that you may need it...kind of like 4WD. The locker does very little in the ability to climb. That is what I mainly miss about 4WD.

 

I believe they are about $300. The videos on the web site are quite interesting showing an old falcon with a lockrite in the rear pulling a few 4x4's off of a conveyer type rollers.
