I don't boil them, especially bear skulls as it shrinks them (lower score) and they often crack. I've found mastication (let it rot in a bucket of water) is the best method, but it's not for the weak. ;)

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. I haven't had cracking issues boiling yet. Definitely have had brittle issues from over boiling though. I wasn't paying attention to last year's buck. Luckily they where small antlers.

That sounds pretty nasty! I bet it would work though. I've heard of people burying the skull for a month or two, but hadn't heard of the water method. I ordered some dermestid beetles, but they've taken forever to show up. I'm not patient and things where starting to smell, so I said screw it. I'm thinking I'll see if I can get a taxidermist to let me throw in next year's kill, or kills hopefully, in their dermestid tank if I give him the beetles I ordered. I would hate for them to go to waste...

It is enough to gag a maggot, but it liquefies the organic matter in the veins and small pockets in the bone in just a few weeks. It also does a good job of lifting grease from the bone. Dermestid beetles also work great, but if they get loose they will eat every stitch of fabric on your house and leave thousands of holes in taxidermy. Better to do out in the old shed that nobody goes into on the north 40. Ant piles also get the job done, but security is an issue (damn coyotes). I know the OSP forensics lab uses beetles too, might be able to donate them there if you don't mind them eating human flesh. Don't know why you would, they don't mind.

Interesting. Even on my phone it won't load, wi-fi and non wi-fi. I'll car shop the old way with autotrader.com, cars.com, etc..

It's in the air right now. I've looked at many SUVs and AWD cars. Not sure if I want to sell my Tacoma or keep it. If I sell, I'm getting an SUV. If I keep, I'm getting an AWD car - most likely a Subaru.

These are the two I'm looking at:

Avoid the GC if it is a 5.7l. The one year we had Ericas, we were in the shop 4 times for engine problems

You guys seem to know a bit more than me about all of this, I got a come-a-long rated for 8K lbs from my boss. He said "don't get stuck with your girlfriend, she'll be pissed. Also, get your own chains" Does anyone know what gauge chain and length would be good to pull my truck out?

Chains are bad. Chains break, and decapitate people. There are videos on liveleak if you want to check it out. Use a recovery strap, and not the walmart one with the hooks sewn in. I have the wheelers branded strap and it's awesome. I also have a couple shorter "tree straps" from a local farm supply store and 5 or 6 bow shackles. You can get out of most anything with a come a long, a shovel, a few straps, and a hi-lift jack.

Sounds good. I drove my mother-in-laws 2011 4Runner last week. I love those things. Made me miss my '91. I've also had an '02 GC which was such a good car. Very smooth to drive.

My buddy bought an 2013 GC Overland and keeps telling me he spends more time with it in the shop then not.

I've heard engine problems, nav problems and air ride problems

Good to know, Ill check out Wheelers, they are right up the road from my lady's parents place.

Should I be worried about the chain loop that is attached to the back of the come-a-long?

Nah. The problem with chains isn't using them with a come a long, it's when you use another truck to yank. Chains just aren't made for that kind of force.

    Hey ya'll,

I have I Cabela's gift certificate for $100 (e certificate). I'm willing to trade it for cash or an Amazon cert for no less that $85. Cabela's is too far to drive for me. Willing to negotiate. This is for real and the cert is fully transferable you just need a code to get the cash and i'll share the info with you. 100% not a scam i just can't find anything I really want on their site.

Easy choice Joe, get the 4runner. Saw one of the TRD Pro runners. Gave me a serious stiffy. (Sales guy was kinda embarrassed).

Lift that bad boy, bring it to TSF so we can all drool over it.
