I'll add a couple cheap mods...

First was to install a lock on my center storage compartment. The lock cost me $4.00 at Lowes. The lock works very well for what it's needed for. I go to a casino and they offer free Valet Parking. This will prevent these punks from peaking into my storage compartment to see what they can grab. It's happened before and I lost a few CD's!

On with the pics...

Lock - There was 2 options. 1/2" or 1/4" max thickness. The 1/2" was the perfect size.
CheapMod010_db95ef79b56bfaf0a66efc2e61470d42a825a5df.jpg

The locks requires a 3/4" hole. I first started with a pilot hole all the way up to a 1/2" hole using a drill then did the remainder with a Dremel. Not perfect but the lock fit fine and will be eventually covered with the lock.
CheapMod001_5779aedf08712c066d41379f530892f23ce2114c.jpg

Installed the lock using the "bent" latch. Works perfect.

CheapMod015_df3b831251f9a218a96a0e0f105e31dd956e4a4e.jpg

Blurry pic but best I could do...The "bent" latch worked the best.
CheapMod020_377e5a86c064a632846e6998aa2ed93781e98c9d.jpg

The latch needs to fit flush against the lip of the storage compartment. Protect your hand sanitizer and lube!
CheapMod023_671511bac6dab860f922f387edc7a0e274052995.jpg

So I did this back in April and have actually used the lock several times. It is holding up very well and still works perfect.

The next mod cost me nothing except the time to find it around my house.

For those of you who have young kids can proabably agree the rear center seatbelt needs a button to hold up the buckle. My son is in a booster and always sits in the middle. The buckle tends to fall down into the seat so I always have to dig down to grab it and is annoying when I am on the driver's side and it's pouring down rain on me...This "free" mod will save a lot of time and frustration when buckling up your kiddos. :D

Before: The buckle creeping down to hide inbetween the seats.
CheapMod024_81165689f2afa725528eb3a1db20384d8a590115.jpg

Used my Home-Econ skills from Jr. High and installed the beloved BUTTON! Be careful with the needle. I wore gloves and a welders mask for 100% safety. :)
CheapMod028_e316aaa82910c1a221cc83ae7d569fef747647c2.jpg

Aw, the finished product. Works like a charm!

So I tried this on my 2007 Tacoma and now neither fob works. Should I keep trying, since maybe I have disabled all key fob functions (by improperly performing the above sequence?) I'm hoping that if I perform the sequence correctly, the key fob(s?) will begin to work again. Any ideas?

Thanks!

USE THE BELOW PROCEDURE TO REPROGRAM THE REMOTES:

1. Start with the key out of the ignition, drivers door is open all others closed and drivers door is unlocked.

2. Perform these steps within 5 seconds.

A. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.

B. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Close then open the drivers door.
B. Close then open the drivers door.
C. Insert the key into the ignition(Do NOT Turn) Pull key out.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Close then open the drivers door.
B. Close then open the drivers door.
C. Insert the key into ignition and leave it in ignition.
D. Close the drivers door.
E. Turn the ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
F. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock then unlock automatically
indicating successful entry into programming mode.
Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds.
B. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
Press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door
locks should lock and then unlock once indicating successful programming. If
the door locks cycle twice, repeat steps A and B in step 6 as the remote was
not accepted.
C. Repeat steps A and B in step 6 for each new remote.

7. Open drivers door.

*** NOTE - you can ONLY have (4) remotes working/programmed at any one time, if you program a fifth, the first remote is removed from the memory and so on for the sixth, seventh...etc.

After you are done I would test ALL remotes to ensure proper function.

:)

Just put my lights in. As it's still sunny here in North Georgia, I don't have an update, but I'll let you know later tonight! Thanks for the great idea!

Anyone know how to add a ipod cable to the stock stereo of a 05? Looks like there was a thread about this at one time but it has disappeared now.
Thanks

This is my first post / mod! I followed a set of instructions for a 2008 to turn off the seat belt chime. It was a no go. I followed a second very similar step with positive results! No more pesky seat belt chime. Here is a cut and past of the instructions that worked on my 2009 six cyl.

I don't know if the type of engine changes computer / instructions. I also do not know how long this lasts. Is this going to reset at my next dead battery or power loss?

Seat belt chime
1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car)
2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Turn the ignition switch off
4. Turn the ignition switch on
5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front drivers's side seat belt.
7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
9. Turn the ignition switch off.
10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
11. Check that no buzzer sounds when setting on the front passenger seat

Yes. It will reset when power to the ECU is lost. I have done this mod twice (had to disconnect the batter for another mod).
