I'll line my truck up next to their TRD Pro, even without the grille.

I saw one of these things in the wild the other day, noticed the grille, and all it did was make me sad someone spent money on that trim level. I don't blame Toyota for pricing their product as high as the market will bear - that's just good business. I do, however, blame consumers who don't do their homework. Those same features (or better) can be had for thousands less.

While I agree with you to an extent, there has been lots of debate about that around here. Each side has pros and cons. I personally would build up but to each his own.

^Is the price also this high if you are a legit TRD Pro owner and can provide your VIN? Imagine if you hit some road debris and be forced to "downgrade" to the mainstream grille to save money.

On the other side of the equation, you have dealers installing cheap spacer lifts and marking them up by $2000 or more. At least the TRD Pro comes with half-decent hardware.

Since the grille insert is so pricey maybe you can get special insurance through Lloyds of London. :D

Yesterday when I went to go get Toyota LL Coolant they were having a spacer lift special at $1300. A toytec 5100 lift was only $2500 .

^Not as bad as the stacked lift my dealer was showing on a Tundra:

If the P/N is correct, go for it. Normal grille should be in the $200 range MSRP.

i did try to buy one before i did upgrade from a dealership i delt with for years. if you count me, my ex, my folks and my sister, about 20 cars, trucks and suv's in the last 15 years or so, the day i bought this tacoma we also bought a tundra for my dad and an avalon for my mom. the parts guy i bought lots of stuff through and trust, said it was basically like restricted part (i forget the phrase he used) he tried to use the VIN from a legit TRD Pro to order a replacement and got denied, they required more info or proof or something. cost was around $525 or so. i asked he tried, we failed. hard to get! basically what he said was for these they are trying to sell the trucks with the package really hard and they know people can swap a few parts and make a normal tacoma look like a pro without spending the extra $$$ to get the package. thats real world info.

i am a contracted producer for Lloyd's (seriously) (it sounds prestigious but if your licensed producer and have a descent book of business and reputation you can apply and most likely be accepted) hit me up, lol! Lloyd's will insure anything from the Superdome to your 1998 single wide mobile home. a grille would be a first, but sure we could find an underwriter willing to accept the risk, lol! you ever see how Lloyd's operates, it IS one of those things you HAVE TO see before you die! SERIOUSLY! they do things the same way as they have since they founded the concept of insurance hundreds of years ago, they wear the old george washington white wigs, assemble in a big hall and argue of who will sponsor which risks and what percentage they are willing to underwrite, its a trip!

maybe we stumbled onto a new market, "TRD PRO GRILLE INSURANCE" lol :)

Yes, and a good number of people pay money to see Justin Bieber or Nickelback. You are certainly free to make questionable life decisions. :p

Funny how it works. If you add up all the parts needed to convert a "mainstream" TRD Sport to look like a TRD Pro, the costs aren't that disparate:

    Grille
    Factory BHLM headlights
    Fake beadlocks
    TRD exhaust

To go from a TRD Off Road takes more money, since you'd have to swap for a scooped hood and body-colored mirrors.
