    oh.. legit question.. I lost the bolts that hold the flange together on the exhaust on a trail yesterday.. i guess the nuts just backed themsleves off over time.. heard the truck starting to sound like shit.. checked under it, and noticed both nuts were gone, one bolt was gone, and the flanges were being held together by one bolt just hanging on. I lose the gasket as well.

    i got Grade 8 bolts and all metal locking nuts yesterday. I also picked up a gasket.. but my dumb self told them "yeah 2.25" not even thinking of the application.. thats where it opens up to 3" :facepalm: so.. going to return it and get a 3" gasket. anything i need to look for or be weary of?

    For all of those who stumble across my thread, and read and understand all of the fails and wins of going in such a foreign performance oriented build on this vehicle, I say to you this. I have learned a lot. A whole lot in my journey. I aim to share with all of you that which I have learned, that you may be wiser as well as not have to face my pitfalls. With my experiences and knowledge gained, there are many things that I can tell you. All of which are my best recommendations, but only that. Also, I am not always right, and despite my fierce desire to be right and accurate, I will admit when I am wrong.

    Just keep that in mind.

    One thing I am disappointed with in Toyota of America, is that they removed the OEM engine bay fuel filter, which is serviceable, for one in the fuel tank, which is not.

    What happens if you end up getting bad gas one day filled with tons of particulates? What happens if you go over 15k, 30k, 100k miles and want to change your fuel filter? What happens if you want to add boost and want a fresh filter for your new injectors? Well, you can fork over the ~$4-600 for a whole new unit, you do a fuel pump upgrade for ~$150-200. (Dependant upon style of pump) Which involves removing the OEM and replaces it with an inline replaceable fuel filter.

    Here is a cleaner version of what I have seen come out of a filter that had 120k miles.

    On another vehicle, it came out so black that it stained the black asphalt. That one had 100k as well.

    You want that going through your injectors, making for poor atomization, and engine? You be the judge.

    Europe and Australia have cleaner fuels than us, and they have a P/N for a replaceable OEM fuel filter. How backwards does that make ours?o_O

    They won't, and they will politely be asked to leave from here.

    As far as upgrading fuel pump size, I honestly have never known the flow rate of the OEM Tacoma fuel pump. I will find out one way or another. That flow rate is the key for how much hp capacity the OEM fuel pump can handle.

    TRD s/c only makes ~260 whp out of the box. OEM pump handles that well enough. Keep in mind that is already ~60 more hp than stock. Add to that an intake, headers, y-pipe, and or tuning device, and pullies, and wheel hp and that will bump the power up between 300- 370.

    Without and OEM gauges or sensors, and without knowing the LPH of the OEM pump, I wouldn't feel safe not upgrading to a size of a pump which can and is proven to flow/handle 1.4x (minimum) the projected whp. As you have to account for engine hp. A higher multiplier if using ethanol, as the engine requires more ethanol than gasoline. I will edit those #'s in a few minutes.

    That's why I upgraded mine. That alone is enough.. Why wouldn't you with a moderately priced mod that gives you that.. plus the benefit of an external filter.

    Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.. and all that jazz.

    does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
    How about a FASS type system that has an exterior pump and filter? Not something so huge like the diesels are running, but something with a spin on fuel filter before the fuel pump?
