    Good morning Rob.

Start to cook and finish cleaning the house today. Yesterday was so nice out that I finished raking the lawn and burnt a lot of scrap wood and downed tree limbs, small ones, in the fire pit.

Maybe this weekend I will start to winterize the pond. Fish actually fed a little yesterday.

Part of me wants to do another over seed of the lawn today. I still have some seed left over. ;)

Another pond person! (Ours came with the house.) I finally finished mucking it out and winterizing it last weekend. I still have to change out a faulty GFCI outlet associated with the filtration system, but I don't have stick my arms into water up to my armpits to do that so it is not as time critical. ;)

    Morning all:
    Just starting to snow here!
Talk about the gerbroni's W/AWD SUV's; driving way too fast for conditions and not the best tires doesn't help matters either, no matter what the vehicle.

Snowing here, moose-ometer dropped to 30F, big fat flakes. Maybe I'll get to use the new snowblower.

There's a small fire pot where the pellets fall and ignite(maybe a 3" x 3" cylinder) not room or any way to get chips in there once the smoker is running. So I'd say no chips.

X2 Keep the updates and pics coming.

X2 on the big flakes. It's like 40* here in Frederick. Hopefully, no snow blower necessary.

    Dave:
Repair work from 2 springs back after a heavy rain, flooding conditions, pushed about 4 wheelbarrow loads of sand, soil, and mulch under the liner. Gives you a clear look at the pond. It is pretty small at 8ftX11ft.

Nnnnoooooooo!:p We have quite enough fish. :)

Here's what I did to keep the population under control; I got a couple of koi. They get big, and they eat the fry. We have 3 koi in ~800 gallon pond, and maybe 10-15 goldies. We get 2 new goldies per year, max.

Then there was the year that nearly all of the small fish simply disappeared. I think it was a possum but I've heard that minks will wipe out garden ponds too.

I have a lot of problems with The Great Blue Heron eating the fish. This year I had to resort to having a net over the pond all year. The frog population dwindled most likely to lack of insects visiting the pond. I need to find a better alternative next year. I have a decoy heron but all that does is attract real herons. I am thinking of an elevated net with the sides open to let the pollinators into the flowers and as food for the frogs. I will probably need to purchase 5 to 10 tadpoles next year..

SIL's pond has heron problems too. They're still way overpopulated with fish.

We see herons in flight but not often, and never on the ground. I don't think a heron could take off from the part of the property where the pond is; not enough space for them to gain altitude.

I was thinking shotgun, you could even use it with the decoy, but that might not go over well with the neighbors, or Fish & Game. :notsure: J/K I couldn't resist.

I have seen them go straight up from a perched position on a roof, while scoping out our pond.

You and my son think alike. LOL endangered species here in MD. Sigh.
