I believe that airbags cost around $40 each. That is the manufacturers cost, and bears no relation to what they sell for. There are a small number of manufacturers (as the current recalls verify) and they have a lock on the market! Free enterprise at it's best!

Op .... you have gotten ton of good advice here ... i.e....take lots of pictures from every angle, so when they fix it. You can show how minor the damage was when the CarFax pops up and kills your resale value.

Also, ask for the damage depreciation value adjustment from the paying insurance company.

FYI, years ago when some lady barely hit my Highlander bumper, her insurance company paid a minor amount to fix the bumper (maybe $1,000.00) and because the Highlander was fairly new and had a "small bend point on the bumper to unibody frame mount" ... they paid an additional $2,200.00 (depreciated value frame damage on a fairly new vehicle) if I remember correctly.

Remember this above all .... be VERY cautious in dealing with ANY insurance company, even you own.

I can't tell you to do this .... but I record every phone call from any bank, lawyer or insurance company, (basically ALL important phone calls) so I can write a letter later with the "exact time & words from the conversation". ... :D

I would be careful as this is illegal in many states, unless you disclose the fact that you are recording...

This is why I stated earlier regarding hoping for it being deemed totaled and maybe having a chance for a buy back cheap. That no start after laying on it's side would concern me along with body damage. Even if it's not totaled and fixed, I would feel like I am driving a rebuilt truck and blaming any future issues to the accident. It will more than likely also show up on a carfax report which doesn't bode well for future sale or trade in.

I was gonna ask where in TX he is located :D.

I had the Dunlops and took them off at 50k because I lifted. I never had a problem with them, and I probably could have safely driven on them for another 10-15k.

Nice. Its true. The focus blends and is a car I never thought Id drive but I drive 2.5 hours a day and the truck was being filled up every 3 days. The focus get 30 - 36mpg and the taco get 12-16. Just didnt make sense to put highway miles on an offroad beast.

That is the exact reason I bought the Camry. But I could not stand not having a truck anymore. The Camry was paid off, but I couldn't justify having it anymore, and once I had the Taco I would not want to drive it anymore anyway.

So the 12k I got in trade was better than it sitting in the garage doing nothing but losing value.

Last January I landed my truck on the drivers side after a black ice spinout. An 09 Sport with 87K the damage was estimated in the low 20s and so was the value so needless to say I'm now driving a 13 I picked up new a couple weeks after the wreck.

My truck had considerably more damage and miles so I suspect yours was/is repaired. Although I must say I was amazed by a thread on here a while back where a member accidently triggered the curtain air bags while working on his truck, IIRC replacing the headliner and air bags ran close to $8000.

Below is a photo showing some of the damage and a link to the thread I put up at the time.

Curious to hear how your situation turns out.
