Hey guys, i just got a new toy. 1988 toyota pickup 22re. Was running fine, and the next day it won't turn over. It cranks strong , but won't turnover. My 1st thought is the fuel pump? Anyone have any idea if it could be something stupid that I'm just passing over.. I appreciate any help that could be given. Thanks.

Here is how to figure it out. You need 2 things for a motor to run: Fuel and Spark. So lets figure out which is not working.
    1. Fuel. Go to the auto store and buy a can of starter fluid. Spray the starter fluid into the intake and try starting the car or have someone else start it while you spray. If it runs, you have a fuel problem.

    2. Spark. Remove one spark plug from the block and with the plug wire still attached, ground the plug on the engine, (Make sure you have good contact, scrape the metal clean) look for spark, this is easier in the dark.

Let me know how that goes.

Thanks for the reply... Looks like it's a fuel problem, the starter fluid worked

It could be either a plugged fuel filter or a dead pump. The easier thing is to start with a filter. I would lean toward the pump though. I am not sure about the fuel pumps on those. I am guessing they are an electric pump located in the tank but you may get lucky if it is a mechanical pump driven off the crank. Those are like $50 and a 1 hour fix.
