That much would probably last me 2-3 yrs. How many tons do you have there? Soft or hardwood?

Theres 8 tons there. 1/2 hardwood ($250 per ton) 1/2 softwood ($175 per ton)
I buy them in july every year and that heats my house for the whole season. I usually have a ton left at the end of winter.
We dont even light our propane furnace. My house stays at least 75 sometimes 85+.
I have to burn the softwoods upstairs in our house due to the lower BTU they put out. If I burn premium hardwood up there it gets uncomfortably hot.
My house was built in 1840, had a couple additions, mostly old windows that could blow out a match lol.

That's interesting to show the difference between an old house and a new one, I guess. My old house was built in 2000, was 2200 square feet, and I used to heat it on 2 tons of pellets a year in a cheap Englander stove from Home Depot that was rated for 1000 square feet. We'd shut the doors to the two back bedrooms upstairs and my workshop downstairs and set the stove on heat setting #3 (out of 9) & it would keep the house around 72

That's what I have are in Englanders, even on the lowest setting they still go through at least a bag in 24 hours, thered only a hundred bags in two tons... is that your only source of heat?
my old house was basically a double wide trailer on a foundation and I had my pellet stove in there it was only about 900 square feet and I could heat the house for the year on three tons it was insulated pretty good and it was pretty open.

or people that don't have a place to cut enough wood to last them for the year and also don't like the mess of dragging firewood in the house.
I do have an add on furnace in my shop that I heat with wood and yes I cut it and split it myself and my chainsaw is a Stihl 029

I only burn hardwood pellets and they are my only source of heat. I've been avg. about 3 tons per year. My supplier is currently charging $225/ton for HARDwood, and $325/ton for SOFTwood. They claim and I've heard it before the softwood has higher BTU output. My experience is I can't burn the softwood slow enough, it gets to hot to fast. I have a Harman P45.
BTW My chainsaw works just fine. Just prefer not making a mess everyday to heat my home. Keeping the house clean and warm makes a happy wife.
    Happy wife

I had an Englander 25-PDVC that I wired to a thermostat upstairs. So the stove didn't run constantly even though we had it on most of the time. It would run until the upstairs hit the temp we wanted, then it'd go idle until the temp dropped down again.
I think it averaged about a bag every other day, but that's the average. In the late fall/early spring a bag could last a week. In January we went through a bag a day, haha!

It was a supplemental heat source that we used as a primary source. The house was HWBB on an oil-fired boiler, but I wanted to use as little oil as possible, so I installed the Englander.

    FTFY :D

I run Easy Heat which are $175 ton (softwood/pine) and Lignetics $250 ton(premium hardwood). Imho the lignetics put out more heat than the easy heats. I usually run my downstairs stove at 25% on lignetics in the cold months, when i use easy heat during the same time the stove has to be set around 40% to get the same output. I run the easy heats sept, oct, nov then switch to hardwood for the colder months.

My wife carries fire wood and sets the fire. I cut it split it and stack it. We don't worry too much about the mess 5 minutes with a vacuum takes care of that in short order. Two Great Danes make far more mess than an arm full of wood.

    lol...
I cut, split, & stack the wood, carry the wood to fill the wood racks, light and feed the fires, empty the ashes and dump them into the big trash barrel over by the compost. And mostly I enjoy it.

My GF has a rocking chair in front of the stove that she sits in. :notsure:

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
How would that compare to say natural gas for heating as far as cost in your area? I'm sure I could just heat with my gas furnace for less than this pellets cost for a year here.

We dont have natural gas available where i live, just propane and its outrageous.
Using pellets it cost me about $1500 for the year to heat my home which equals out,to a little over $100 a month. No way I could do it with propane- natural gas would cost me more than pellets if I were on a budget also.

My pellet burner paid for itself in two years. I use to fill my LP tank 3+ times a year. Now I just top it off once a year:yay:
