    The 2.7L four.

    Is it aluminum block/head?

Is the camshaft chain driven, like the 2.4L four in the earlier Tacomas?

Are there any peculiarities that I, as a new owner, should be aware of?

    A 2015 truck. 900 miles on it.

I had a 97 2.7. I don't think they've changed all that much. Great motor. Aluminum head, lifetime timing chain, steel block I believe. Mine developed a cold piston knock on start up when it was cold, but it didn't affect anything.

Different engine family, according to onlne notes.

It's not about "changing much" but about a different engine entirely.

    Yes, Aluminum Block and head.

    Yes, Chain Driven Cams.

Probably, read TW and find everything you would like to know.
