It'll be alright. There are plenty of does in there where I'm hunting, and I prefer to eat the small ones.

Been in there 7 times, and I've seen 21 does and 5 bucks. Not really all that pertinent to my point, just wanted to point it out.

I think what they are trying to say is that shooting mature does is the way to go. I have always tried to keep the doe to buck ratio in line because you see bigger does and bigger bucks every year. Mature does in my opinion have the best meat, and more of it. My uncles never believed me about the ratio, but once we started shooting mature does for meat, and shooting mature bucks only, within 3-4 years we saw bigger and bigger bucks every year. Honestly if you are seeing that many does and that few bucks, the ratio is off, trust me.

No, I got what he was saying. But to me, the younger deer taste better. I don't really care all that much about shooting a huge buck. If it were up to me I'd shoot 2 spikes a year for meat. Can't eat horns.

Don't get me wrong, if a monster walks by I'll put him down. But, for me, it's more about filling the freezer than filling the wall.

ill hunt for a big buck all year, will i shoot a young buck? yes. it all depends on how late in the season it is.
fwiw, mature does reproduce better and have a lower fawn mortality rate than young does anyways. and younger deer are more tender. its up to you what you shoot I'm not going to knock you for shooting a button head if you wanna. we all buy the tags and can do as we please i hate when people get into arguments over which deer to shoot its ignorant.

some nice 8's in this thread lately congrats guys

The plus to me about shooting young small does this time of the year, is chances are they aren't pregnant.

I was just saying the guidelines I follow and the results I've seen with following them. To each their own, but my freezer stays full of meat, and sometimes a big buck goes on the wall. Just somethin to think about, that's all.

Was a decent morning in Rockport, Texas with some buddies two weekends ago in a new spot. 8 Bufflehead, 8 Redheads and a pintail.

Lots of divers there, Clearly you have a need for speed.....you got one duck worth eating and 16 that you can grind up for sausage (I do this every year, so delicious. 30% duck 60% pork and all the seasonings, Jalapeno cheddar polish sausage is my favorite.)

Thanks, I thought it was cool too. Its a fox squirrel, I see them a lot down here out in the country, not in the city where I live tho. Here's another pic of him. I braised him with bbq sauce, he was a little tough but very good.

We used to have some fox squirrels up here. Very few. Haven't seen them in YEARS. Kinda wish they would bring some back up here and release them

Yeah, the bufflehead and teal that we see in our area are a blast to shoot when they come burning in. That sausage sounds like a good idea for the meat from those ducks, will have to make some when the season opens back up here in a week or two. We usually soak them in a salt brine to take some of the gamey flavor out, season or marinate them and make some poppers with jalapeños and pepper bacon.
