I wasn't sure how to search for this so figured i would try my luck asking.... Last night I had a deer bust my front bumper and my first thought was now I got a reason to get a real bumper. This is what I was thinking... http://www.pelfreybilt.com/#!2005-front-hybrid/c20aa

So I was wanting input from y'all because I'm sure I'm not the only person to try and get one of these through insurance. I would be willing to bet that they won't pay the full cost of everything though which is understandable. This is my first time trying to get aftermarket equipment with insurance. Any input is appreciated.

I believe I've read on here before where people get the amount of the repair and are able to apply that amount to purchasing an aftermarket bumper. Additionally, when I hit a moose 8 yrs ago, the insurance pay off for the totalled vehicle was paid under the comprehensive portion of my coverage as an act of nature versus under my collision coverage. Made a difference for me because my comprehensive deductible is $100 and my collision deductable is $1000. Felt that worth mentioning. Good luck.

I just went through this! I just told the adjustor what I wanted to do and the insurance company sent me a check for the what the bumper would have cost to replace/repair included paint and prep. It paid for a lot of the plate bumper and fyi pelfreybilt builds a great bumper, I got the single hoop with all the cutouts.

That's how I was thinking i would have to do things but wasn't completely sure. Also mines going under comprehensive as well. The damage isnt serious but I'll definitely be get a new bumper. My passenger fog light is broken and under that its cracked all the way down. Its also cracked on the side of the bumper as well. I don't think it damaged my fender flare but if it did its very minor. Thanks for the reply.

If you dont mind me getting in your business a little here did it pay for at least half?

I've always loved their hybrid bumpers!! I wanted brute forces hybrid but I've heard he's kinda went MIA for the past while.

I know my dad used to do this with his beaters. Smack a deer. Get a check for a 1000 or so. Go get parts from a junk yard and fix it for a 200 pocket the 800. He did this several times with his f150.

some insurance companies won't give you a check only in your name.

I also ordered the Pelfrey single hood with all the cutouts.

Im going through my body shop though. The adjuster said its only 700 in damage. The body shop quoted my 1400 without taking the bumper off to inspect all the brackets and such. I know for fact looking on the toyota online parts shopper that there is at least 700 in parts alone before paint or labor.

    Good luck

I think the total damage amount to about 8500. they sent me a check for a little over 700(?). so it paid for more then half the bumper.;)

I swear by the inexpensive deer sirens you mount on your front bumper. Get at WallyWorld. I had them for years and have seen numerous deer about to cross the road at twilight or first light and as I approach they stop dead, turn and run the other way. For $10 what do you have to lose?

One of the stupidest gimmicks ever. I've seen SO many images over the years of dear torsos implanted in vehicles with those stupid things prominently mounted to the bumper that it's comical. I wasn't aware there were still people who believed in them.

Deer whistlers have been debunked many times.

Enjoy the new bumper OP, and back strap! Glad you made it through in one piece.

    It's a good idea...gettting a solid deer buster/brush guard.

A contractor to my employer, runs Suburbans over back roads in the Rockies...they have a LOT of deer run-ins; and mostly, a solid brush guard mounted to the frame...saves both Suburban and passengers.

Just got my Gen2...gonna have to get one myself, even though I don't plan on hard wheeling.
