I have owned my used 2013 TRD sport for about a month, started to notice a vicbration starting at 15-25 so I took it into another dealership other then the one I bought it at.

Anyways, the ASE master tech said that the angle that my drive shaft was at it was torquing against my rear diff which makes sense causing the vibration. He wants to replace my leaf springs and give me ones with more angle for the drive shafts approach to the diff, also he wants to inspect the balance of the drive shaft and I think he wants to take apart my diff to make sure theres not damage.

Anyways so I just bought this thing 1 1/2 months ago and now they said that its not covered because the dealership I bought it at installed a leveling kit a TRD leveling kit. That was the 1 year pre owned certified used car warranty. The dealer that isn't the dealer I bought it from but another one wanted to call Toyota cooperate and see what they will do but instead I'm taking it back to the dealer I bought it from. The only reason I didn't take it to them in the first place is because I really don't care for them.

Kearny Mesa was the dealer I went to and they said that if they called toyota its probably going to be a 50/50 they pay half I pay half. Its like $2400 so I'm hoping the dealer that I bought it from pays up and takes care of it. I mean I bougth the thing like this pre owned certified and its doing this, ridiculous.

I guess my question is why isn't this covered?

If it was sold to you as a certified pre owned then it would be covered. Do you have your original paperwork frim when you bought the truck?

So there are two different warranties the pre owned certified 12,000 mile 1 yr which ever first warranty. Then the 100,000 mile or 7 yr power train warranty. Toyota tired to calm it to the pre owned warranty company and they said because of the lift that the dealer I bought it at installed that they wouldn't cover the repairs. Then the 100,000 mile one wont cover it because its out of its 36,000 miles basic Toyota warranty

Ok, I'm trying to understand the situation. A Toyota dealership sold you a certified pre owned tacoma with the lift already installed? Did the selling dealership install the lift?

I'm also confused about them telling you the certified warranty is covered by another company. The certified pre owned warranty is usually a Toyota warranty.

IF I read this right, you bought the vehicle WITH the leveling kit? IF so I'd bring it back to the first dealer and say to make it right. The second dealer sounds like they are saying the after market lift caused this and voids the warranties?

IF so - I'd go the first and see if they can fix for no charge if not contact corporate.

    Yes
Holy shite $2400 !? It is a $20 fix ! ... You don't need a whole new leaf pack a simple carrier bearing shim or axle shims and a drive shaft balance check will solve the issue. You need to get away from the dealer and go see the guys at Oceanside Driveline or North County Spring.

There is a tsb for this... Any front suspension changes do not effect rear drive line angles ... They will replace the leaf packs with stiffer ones with a proper degree shim. This should all be free if you are in 3 yr 36k miles.

Thanks for the reply on this I'll try my best to explain what was explained to me. So yes the dealer who sold me the car installed the lift and its the TRD leveling kit.

Yes the Pre owned certified is Toyota but I believe its a separate branch entirely. So if you want to cover something under the 7 yr 100,000 mile you would call one place and if you wanted to use the 1 yr 12,000 mile you would call another.

Agreed I'm doing this on Monday. I'm just hoping they don't say the same thing as the place that did the initial inspection.

$20 I'm not sure what to say to that it seems fare fetched I mean I believe you but really $20?

I'll contact Oceanside Driveline thanks for the advice.

    Agreed. :):)
I have the slight 15-25mph light vibes as well and I am running a OME 3" lift, tried a carrier bearing drop with no success. I need to get under the truck in the spring to measure if I need axle shims, sucks but I live with it.

First question is a yes it came with the leveling kit installed by the dealer and bought through Toyota. Second part I'm doing tomarrow. And yes I agree with the second dealer I believe that's what they thought I should have pushed harder on the situation.

    Yes
If your drive line problem is truly just incorrect angles you only need to shim the carrier bearing or the axle to fix the angles. Shims are very inexpensive here is an example :http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Leaf-...5CGtVGEDMjQTEDUCDwDnykq1XTCE_wxFVcaAiZ78P8HAQ and without a rear lift a carrier shim would effectively be a washer, you can install a carrier shim in about 5 minutes with a socket wrench. Axle shims are a bit more involved but all you have to do is losen your uBolts and insert the shims and re tighten your u bolts it is that simple.

You only need professional advice to figure out wheat angles are off and what size shims are needed... You can even do that yourself with a little reading and a digital angle finder. Skip down to page 17 here to get a basic understanding of the problem : http://www2.dana.com/pdf/J3311-1-DSSP.pdf

I can't imagine a shop charging more than $200 to diagnose and shim even the rear end, it can't be more than a couple hours of work tops.

Problem is the way the driveline is setup on these trucks you can never get the angles proper and will always have some sort of vibes.... This is perpetuated by any lift in the rear. A mushy ass center carrier bearing is also a big cause of the 15-25 mph vibes, I have contemplated filling mine with something like permatex ultrablack.

That stated.... My 2013 TRD or dcsb had horrible 15-25 vibes, getting the 3+1 firm ride leaf pack with the 2 deg shim on the bottom cured 90% of the vibes.
