Is that a spare connecting rod? Is it really realistic to swap one out without some major time and equipment in port??

Yup, spare conn. rod; there's a gantry crane overhead the entire engine. If you look, each end is split (they're all split on crankshaft side)...

I'd have to call my friend for exact numbers, but I'd guess a couple of hours to swap one out.

Pretty incredible. The sheer scale of everything is massive.

Yea, I've seen some videos of engine rooms from the big, bulk container ships. The size of everything is pure retarded haha. Crazy they will do a repair like that in that kind of time.

Nicely armored up for the trails for sure. Based on miles, I'd offer 17k.

I'm the poor bastard that took the pic of Jake standing around on the engine. These engines aren't too bad for swapping out a con-rod. Size-wise they're actually on the smaller side of things. In and out in a work day. No need for us to be in port, we've got three other engines that we can run on. We do full overhauls while underway. Some of the engines I've worked on have ladders inside the crank case so that you can climb up inside for inspections and maintenance. These ones aren't nearly that big :) And Jake, only 500 Tacomas? Sheesh, we can haul 200 in the car holds alone, add in the space we've got for 600 semi truck trailers...

That's crazy. I turn wrenches on an 850hp cummins generator and that's big enough for me. It's interesting that you do overhauls underway, I didn't know that.

We're a diesel electric propulsion plant, otherwise it'd be a bit more challenging to work on them underway. 15,500hp each main at 6600 volts. They're kind of fun. I've worked on slow speed direct drive engines, but there's not a lot that you can do on those maintenance-wise while underway. Those engines are nuts. Start it up, go around the world, shut it down. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for months at a time.

I did learn early on that when somebody is showing off the diesel engine in their truck that I shouldn't say "awww, isn't that cute"

Man, I drove off the ship last night to move my truck back to the crew parking area. As soon as I got out the main gate I realized that I could totally be at home sleeping in my own bed in two hours. Needless to say, it was the start of a long night in the engine room. I guess sometime this morning we got pushed about five feet down the dock by the water from a passing ship. At least we didn't part any lines. Fun times. On the plus side, I should have off 20 of my next 24 hours as we switch back to an at sea watch schedule.

That is nuts haha. Just a completely different scale of everything. I suppose having redundancy with your engines and the ability to fix them underway is pretty important considering the consequences of loosing power in the middle of absolutely nowhere...or near something you can get grounded on.

Ordered some Treadwrights over the weekend. Should be here by Friday!

Does anyone have a specific battery tender they use/prefer that's worked well for them?

I finally have a commuter so my trucks gonna be sitting.

I've been using the CTEK model for some time on a bunch of vehicles (cars / motos)

    http://www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-158-1...17718479&sr=1-2&keywords=ctek+battery+charger

I just saw a spot on Jay Leno's garage where they discussed this brand.

If I am understanding I-594 correctly, direct gift transfers between direct family members are allowable sans background check.

It appears as though there isn't any kind of official "exception" letter or any thing of that equivalent that's needed to comply with the law.

    Input?

And I'm just looking for law-specific info.

    Thanks

All I know is that if you inherit a gun, you have to report the sale within 60 days. I'm not sure what happens if both parties are living.
