Awesome. I wonder when Toyota is going to get their shit together and make a better Tacoma.

I read the article. I'm not surprised they chose a brand new, redesigned truck over 10 year old designs.

Numbers don't lie, and the Tacoma is 10 years old. The surpring part is that the new Chevy, barely, excedes a 10 year old truck. When a new Tacoma gets released, Chev well have wished they put more desing time into, this one, as I'm sure their current numbers will be greatly surpassed. That will put them into a spot where they will have to redesign a 1-2 year old truck, get left behind, or pull out of the mid-size again.

    Just my thoughts of course.

    This.

I'll buy a Tacoma over a chevy any day. I will never own another domestic made pickup unless I ever need a 3/4 Ton Diesel(which I want but won't pay 60k for)

Couple things I took away -

    1. I'm glad they focused their review on the types of activities that most drivers of these trucks do, as opposed to off-road prowess or ultimate towing ability. Seems that they wanted to analyze the day-to-day ease of use of all 3.

    2. It would have been interesting to see how a TRD Sport or Off-Road would have compared in the test, as it would be a more direct competitor (in terms of on-road ride, comfort, etc.).

    3. The 2nd Gen is obviously a huge engineering success for Toyota, when a vehicle based on a 10 year old design can hang with a brand new platform. If they do the same with the 3rd Gen (whenever that comes out), they should have another winner on their hands.

Bottom line for me, I thought it was a pretty accurate review, and the Colorado SHOULD win. It's brand new, it knows it's competition's offerings, and it needed to be better than Toyota or Nissan in order to win buyers. Most of the things they praised the Colorado for were thing we already knew were the Tacoma's weaknesses. The Tacoma performed well in the test, though, and should be able to significantly improve on the 2nd Gen when it gets redesigned.

Aside from the abyssmal MPG ( throw a lift and 33's on any truck and it will suck) and the fact the tacoma doesn't come with a locking tailgate (had to add a pop a lock) there is nothing I would change about the truck. I would love more MPG's and power but who wouldn't want that on any vehicle. I think these 2nd gen tacos look better than any other truck on the road as well. If it aint broke....

0.3 sec over two trucks, and it has a 75HP advantage over the Tacoma.

    2MPG gallon better average

Ride quality better on the Colorado? More Car like? Is that what people want on a truck?

I wonder how much Chevy paid Motortrend for that review.

And they compare the towing capacity on a Tacoma without a towing package.....

No need to go "fanboy". They didn't tow anything. They do list the tow package numbers, and the Chev won that too. Read the whole article.

Domestics have generally trumped imports in the cabin comfort experience. (It's all they do well. A polished turd is still a turd.)

However injecting a little healthy competition into the market is always a good thing.

As far as looks goes, the Tacoma obviously has the best appearance! The Colorado looks like a hopped up mini van from the front view, and the frontier just doesn't have the aggressive attractive styling of the Tacoma. Has anyone heard any info of when Toyota might make a complete re-design (gen 3) Tacoma? I would imagine we are still a couple years away from seeing that.

Apples to oranges. They compare rugged terrains to at ko's and bitch about steering response, mpg's and 0-60 times with tacoma's tires that weigh about 10 lbs more? With my TRD sport I went from 0-60 in 6.9 to 7.6 seconds and an average of 20 mpg down to 17.6 mpg. A 1.75" lift and tire change did it. Again, apples to oranges.

I meant more the whole, Big infoainment system, leather everything, power everything, heated everything.

You paid premium for the Honda's and Toyota's for the R & D that went into the Engine/Powertrain. 10 year old engine that does the same 0-60 as a brand new engine? And a 75HP difference? If the Tacoma had 305HP that thing would run like a raped ape riding a scaled cat.

Lol! Did you see the rpm's on the bow ties HP rating? 305@6800 rpm! Talking about a wound up rubberband! Compression ratio of 11.5 to 1! On REGULAR GAS! I guess all we(Tacoma) owners can do for the bow tie lovers is wish them, good luck?

No doubt. I wouldn't trust a high revving chevy truck motor to have a long life span.

Ain't that the truth. 305 HP@6800rpm? Hell, the dam thing redlines @ 6500? Go figure.
