Getting back tomorrow from two months overseas, is there anything I should do before I turn it over for the first time since I left? Maybe put some Stabil or Seafoam in the tank?

I think that would depend on how full your tank was when you left and how humid your environment is and/or experienced significant temperature ranges. If your tank was pretty full and had fairly stable temps, I'd guess you'd have no problem.

^^^ Like he said there isnt really much you can do about it now. Should have put some Stabil in it before you left but that isnt a super long time so I would just start it like normal.

It's pretty full as I remember. In New Orleans, so it was hot, humid and now colder but still humid. Yeah I meant to drop some in before I left, but forgot. Guess I'll just run that old gas out then fill her up and move on.

I've been told by mechanics that gas starts to go bad after a month. After two months it shouldn't be sludge though. I'd throw in some FI cleaner for this tank. Fill it up after to mix it in. Maybe throw in a second bottle on the next tank as well. Couldn't hurt.

Yeah I would just burn it all up then just refuel with high octane for at least 1 tank.

dump in some dry gas and run it. Let it get down to a half, dump in another bottle of dry gas and keep going.

Two months is nothing. It will be fine. Just run the tank to empty and top it back off.

I'll dump a can of Seafoam in it just for kicks and run it empty. Thanks fellas!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but drygas is something people used to put in gas before ethanol came in it. Not needed anymore because drygas is essentially ethanol.

"Dry gas" is a general term which covers alcohol based fluids to be added to the gas tank. The alcohol acts to put any water into a solution that is compatible with the gasoline and then can be burned in the engine. It removes the water and prevents freeze up of the gas lines (in theory). Most Dry Gas is Methanol (wood alcohol) and/or Isopropyl Alcohol.

as a boat owner that is what I would do. Forget throwing your money in to premium unless your engine just requires the higher octane.

Two months should be OK, in the future, try the Marine Stabil, I buy it by the quart. I would verify battery charge, start the engine, fill it with gas, add some Marine Stabil, and go for a long ride and run the old gas out.

^^^ Like the other guys said if you let it sit for long periods of time like that put in some Stabil and get it through the entire system before you put here away. I do the same thing to my dirt bike as it sits in the winter for about 5-6 months and the fuel is still good after that long of a period since she starts right up again.

I agree with this. Just run it. If gas was going bad after just 2 months, enough to cause real starting/running/drivability issues, we'd be hearing about it much more. Marine engines are a different story, they are constantly in a high humidity environment and are often not operated for long periods of time.

You guys are seriously over thinking this. My motorcycles and yard equipment sit for 5+ months every winter and they always fire right up and run fine come spring time.

You're almost as bad as the guys on the Porsche forums, who think you need to change the oil, put the car on jack stands, and remove the battery to let the car sit for 3 weeks while they go on vacation. LOL

    Do dents and scratches count?
I am on the boat for long periods of time. I leave the tank full. Never had a problem. I do use a little dry gas in the summer.

I stored gas in a 5 gal plastic gas container for over a year. Poured it into gas tank and vehicle ran great. :D
