5100s with stock coils clunk noise maybe? Has anyone experience this?

That doesn't look like 1.75? Is the bottom coil spring mount on upside down

 

Good point. I'm going to check that. Usually the top coil starts off smaller than the bottom correct?

 

What line did you put the clip on? And is the black lower coil spring mount on upside down?

 

both are on correctly

 

Here is a pic of mine at 1.75. Something looks wrong on yours. Or maybe I am wrong. Don't know why it loaded sideways but oh well

I don't know then, how old are the shocks?

 

I had a clunk with my 5100's at 0.85" and eibach springs with a driver side lean spacer and no sway bar. It clunked under compression for about 30k miles on both sides, but more on the drivers side. I pulled them off the truck a number of different times and couldnt find anything wrong. I would put everything back in and make sure everything was torqued correctly but the sound just persisted. Finally one night it just gave out driving down the street and started making a knocking sound over any imperfection in the road surface. Pulled them out and replaced them with Icons, no noises since.

One thing to keep in mind, at this point my truck was seeing maybe 10 miles of dirt in a year. I never drove it hard, never put it through any whoops, or jumped the truck. I had both rear 5100's fail me a few months prior to the front going out, and they didnt happen simultaneously. One just got blown out and lost all of it's oil, the other one snapped in half at the shaft. Again, just driving down the street. Bilstein said they wouldnt help me out despite thier lifetime warranty so I moved on. A lot of people run these with no problem, I think I must have gotten a bad batch. I would try contacting them and see if they would help you out.

 

Shocks were purchased brand new this past summer from wheelers. I don't think its the shock. It's gotta be the bushing. I'll have to take it back to Midas to fix the problem they did. When I did it with .85 setting I never had the issue.

 

This sounds like my problem. Under compress when off roading or when I'm braking real hard. I'll hear the clunk. It make me not want to take it on the dirt.

 

Are you getting it from both sides? Know anyone you can swap parts with for a few days?

I installed the same exact setup on my dads Tacoma and there are no noises at all with roughly 20k miles on them.

To me, it looks like your coils may be installed upside-down. I'm at 1.75" this is how mine looks on the ground:

 

It didn't clunk before Midas. Midas just adjusted it to 1.75'' for me since I didn't want to deal with the spring compressor.

After looking at pics and getting peoples feedback. It looks like the installation is correct. Unless the bushing is incorrect below the top plate of the suspension.

 

Something I'm noticing is that mine has the dusk cover and no one else does. I don't think that would cause it though.

 

that answers most. its not the strut it self, its the install.
either something is loose or not in right spot or a bushing was misplaced or installed wrong.

take it to midas and have them fix it.
if you where closer i would say swing by my place and check over the bolts as i just did this yesterday(my lift)

See if the coil shows signs of rubbing against the frame rail. If your LCA alignment is set to neutral or negative they will rub at that spot. I know from experience. It sounds like a pop as the spring rubs past that lower outside edge of the frame.
