speaking of winches, mine wont winch out......I just got off the phone with the place that I bought my replacement motor from, and they gave me some ideas on how to test to see if the motor is bad or if a solenoid is bad.

I just need to use some jumper cables and connect A to F1 and A to F2 and see if it works both directions. If it does, i have bad solenoids, if it does not work in both directions the motor is bad and they will send me a new one.

My dad had a Cherokee with the older version of the HF 9k winch. I got to use it once. Three major differences I noticed right away.

1- the line/drum will truly free spool and not pull against the gears like the Smitty built.
2-The line speed when winching is considerably slower than most others. Not a big deal unless in competition where time counts.
3-It was exceptionally quiet. Even quieter than my Warn 9k that I've had for years.

The handheld control is fairly hokey at best. But that can be upgraded.

Eric is pretty proud of his HF 12k. I'm sure he'll be around shortly to brag about the wireless remote among other things.

Glad I caught all the discussion on the front bumper I am still trying to decide what direction I want to go with my Tacoma. I like the clean look of the USOFFROAD bumper that replaces the lower plastic bumper however it doesn't do much for side protection. http://usoffroad.us/store/tacoma-bumper-2012 I'm currently on the GB list, but its stalled. I been eyeing all the sales trying to figure out what I should do first. I been kicking the idea around for the last couple months if I should jump in and get icons or the Bilstein 5100 complete kit from TOYTEC. I plan to go on some trails next year nothing crazy as I'm still learning, but want a little more height and better ride for when I do go off road. So many choices! Since this is my Daly driver I am trying to find a good median.

Since we are talking bumpers and winches is Warn worth getting or am I just paying for the name? Cause I see plenty of other brands on here reasonably priced currently with all the sales. I have a good deal coming up where I could pick up a VR-10000 SYN or M8000 SYN for around 600-650.00 not what I need but if the price is right why not. :D

After seeing that TOYTEC build put up for sale I really like that bumper made by InSain Fabrication very clean look, I like that they are local too. I'm just afraid to ask what that would cost to make something similar for a 2014.

i had to remove the steel line from my smittybuilt the other night, IT SUCKED BIGTIME!!! although the winch wasnt attached to anything so i would assume that would help a ton when running out the cable.

OST, if your gonna get synthetic line from somewhere customsplice has 3/8x100 foot for $256 which is a killer price!! and the line looks bad ass, see photo in my above post :D

Black wheels are over played and too many people have them on black trucks. IMHO
And I like these. They're strong and badass.

The silver NVs would be badass if you could find a solution for a different center cap.

Every time I've had to pull a first gen back onto their wheels, or pull a jeep unstuck, or even pull myself up an icy ledge in the snow it's worked for me.
I really like the wireless controller too.

Maybe I should use it to pull some punk kid's head out of his ass

Based on the cost of syn line alone wouldn't that winch I posted be a pretty solid deal at $700 shipped? I mean $256 plus $300 for a HF winch of questionable reliability puts me at a little over $100 difference to get the Smittybuilt w/wireless and all that jazz out of the box?

This particular ledge was 748' tall and completely vertical.
It was part of a glacier so it was solid ice.
There were vicious pumas in the cravices.
I made it 95% of the way before having to resort to the super duper Bad(ass)lands winch.

I'm certainly willing to give it a shot.

    oh yeah.... :D
