I call it orange because it looks orange, but..

Technically, there is no orange cheddar. There is only white cheddar, and yellow cheddar.

Eeeeeeeh, it's colored - generally with annatto, which alters the flavor of the cheese primarily and gives it color as a secondary effect.

I don't know. Looks yellow to me. An orange is orange. This cheese does not resemble that color. Closer to yellow.

I loathe making mozzarella at home.

I can't find a really legit website about cheddar color, but this one refers to "dyeing with annatto," so I suppose it's just a terminology thing where someone uses dye and color interchangeably.

Truth. Worth the drive, Tillamook Oregon is a cool little town, too. Hardware store across from the cheese factory sells the red one piece thermals with the butt flap.. almost bought.

I never quite got the butt flat. Wouldnt it be harder to undo and redo those buttons rather than just drop trou and do thy business?

Probably. But so much old timey goodness it's hard to resist.

I'm guessing it's for when it's really cold outside and it's less uncomfortable to bare your ass to the outhouse breeze than it is to bare a little more.
