In ohio its failure to display and comes with a hundred dollar fine.

So it's more than "no one gives a shit" here.

Grow up and follow the law of displaying your plates. Stop whining about two holes in your bumper. Find something productive to do with your time.

Which States Require a Front License Plate?

The United States have been requiring license plates to identify vehicles for over a century now, but not all are front license plate states. More states are requiring vehicles to have license plates on the front and rear of their vehicle for easier identification and to ease the use of red light traffic cameras. The states that require a front license plate are the following:
    • Alaska
    • California
    • Colorado
    • Connecticut
    • District of Columbia
    • Hawaii
    • Idaho
    • Illinois
    • Iowa
    • Maine
    • Maryland
    • Minnesota
    • Missouri
    • Montana
    • Nebraska
    • Nevada
    • New Hampshire
    • New Jersey
    • New York
    • North Dakota
    • Ohio
    • Oregon
    • Rhode Island
    • South Dakota
    • Texas
    • Utah
    • Vermont
    • Virginia
    • Washington
    • Wisconsin
    • Wyoming
    * Massachusetts requires at least one license plate, and it can be on the front or the rear of the vehicle, leaving it up to the driver.

There ya have it...you may or may not get away without a front plate, generally, I get stopped if mine is missing, sooner or later....

I had a co-worker get a $100 ticket because his front license plate was partially covered by his bull-bar when viewed at an elevated angle (toll/red light camera height).

    Gotta love living in D.C.

Depends on the area. ESPECIALLY if you're out of town, the cops might use that excuse to pull you over and start checking. Even if you're not doing anything, you don't really want notice like that.

Every dealer I've been in contact with, has the plate bracket mounted when he puts the truck out ready for sale. You'd have to wait for a truck that's not yet arrived; and then shanghai the lot crew as it's coming off...and even then, it will likely "accidentally" be sent in for the plate-bracket installation.

Ya know...I've had a driver's license since 1975; and I've had about a dozen new cars. I dealt with Chevy dealers in the 70s; Ford dealers in the 80s; and VW dealers in the 90s and Jeep dealers in the 00s. And Toyota dealers are THE most conscientious and courteous of any I've come across - no lie.

Yes, I read the story of the loose wheel. There can be other problems, too...they're not all saints. But I compare that to the Chevrolet stealership I dealt with in 1979...they're worlds apart, and it's no wonder GM went bust.

Put it in perspective, 'kay? It makes life easier.

Like I said, I have been running without fronts plates here in Ohio for years now!
Written up one time after being pulled over about nine years ago.. and that was for doing something really stupid:rolleyes: long story! It's not a fix it ticket either, but I will take my changes since I choose to not to run a front plate...

I would be pissed as well. It would be different if you bought the truck like that, but to just drill holes during a service visit seems wrong. Not the end of the world pissed, but I would definitely lay into the manager and try and get compensated somehow.

all this fuss about 2 little holes. sheesh.

OP...before you went on a rant here on the forums did you even bother to bring this issue up with the Dealerships' GM? he may have done something for you and you could have avoided all this useless bitching. chances are he would:
    1) offer to repair it for you or
    2) swap bumpers with another Taco when they get the same color in.
    3) say tough and not do anything.

The law in Massachusetts is that you have to have both front and rear plates if you have the newer Red numbered plates which were issued starting in 1998.

Here's a quote from the MASS DMV site:
It costs $60 to get your first set of plates―Massachusetts requires both front and rear plates―and $60 for renewal.

Some officers will ticket you if you don't have one. I drive my Camaro through a town known for issuing tickets. The car was new in 2010 and I didn't have a front plate. I was pulled over and told by the officer that he see's me drive through town every day and if I didn't have a front plate mounted by the following week that he'd ticket me. I came up with a zip tie method so that I didn't have to drill any holes in the new car. The dealer was nice enough NOT to drill the holes for me!

I didn't mean this thread to become a plate or no plate discussion, I have no particular gripe about plates myself.
As I said earlier, I've had cars with and cars without, but in this case, a cheap plastic frame was installed without my permission by means of drilling ugly holes in my special ordered Taco, in a location that was not to my liking.
I waited over 4 months to get the truck built to my specifications, it was not a dealer trade.
So again, I caution new Taco buyers that if you order from the factory, you have the one time chance of deciding where , how, or if you will display your front plate.
