Hell, I probably would know being a bow tie retiree. A typo? Is that what you really think?;)

Do you think motortrend made it up? I'd say they (got it from somewhere).

The Motortrend comment section is an absolute cesspit of abdominal human lifeforms...

Yeah, the GM could be the new top dog. But the Frontier and Tacoma have already been out for ten years. If this is what Chevrolet fans rave about no wonder GM always seem a century behind with everything.

Hey Auzea, I wouldn't worry too much about the bow tie. At 6500 rpm and 11.5 to 1 that engine will have problems!

it is a thing called torque. If I wanted a car like ride I would buy a car. People wanting that in a truck is why we have soft springs. Anyone seen sales numbers on these turds?

    PRICE AS TESTED $36,210 $35,680 $38,895
Colorado price as tested $36,210. Frontier Pro $35,680. Tacoma TRD Pro $38,895.

TRD OR DCSB w/tow package probably $33,000 max ????

I think the Chevy motor/trans is proven in other vehicles, it's not a brand new drivetrain. The 3.5L has the HP numbers (and the "6800 RPM" is obviously a typo), but the torque is nothing to crow about. 269 lbs @ 4000 rpm, Tacoma 266 lbs @4000 rpm.

    POWER (SAE NET) 305 hp @ 6,800 rpm 261 hp @ 5,600 rpm 236 hp @ 5,200 rpm
    TORQUE (SAE NET) 269 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm 281 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm 266 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm

I don't know what the torque curve looks like for the 3.5L, but it's probably not any different than the Toyota 4.0 since they're both DOHC motors.

Then once you get into ground clearance, and the inboard mounted rear shocks on the Chevy, those of course limit the Colorado/Canyon offroad there's no way around it.

Then of course - RESALE value.

Tacoma with an old design still the better value (TRD OR). Toyota really should put some money into kicking the Chevy to the curb, though.

However, as I've said before, between that butt-kicker of an earthquake that tore up Toyota's main R&D facilities in Japan and the "unintended acceleration" settlement that took about $11 billion out of Toyota's pocket they put their R&D money into other product lines and basically had to let the Tacoma stand on it's own 10-yr old feet.

(The Scion lineup was a mistake also, I believe it's been a money-loser overall)

As of now, 2013 has been the 3rd highest sales year for the tacoma @ 159,485. Up 18,000 units from the year before.

I don't think it was to much of a typo, as the truck redlines at 6500 rpm anyway. That's wound really tight. It would have to stress it longevity.

Nissan from what I've read and heard has long been known to have the best engine technology. Somehow they get more HP/torque/mpg's out of the same displacement motors as other manufacturers.

Datsun-Nissan are good trucks. They couldn't play with the Toyota's back in the 80's though. IMO they can't now. They are still a good truck though.

How does the Chevy not need premium fuel with 11.5 to 1 compression?

I'd love to know the answer to that one too. And 6500 rpm redline?

I read the link and beside the info that was given there was a lot of attitude in the writers words. I would not call it complementary to people who drive pick up trucks. Like the don't even know how much weight he pulls, and he needs a truck for that once a year load he might haul. Or i liked this one too, he can hear his TRD exhaust many blocks away. In case none of you guys caught that it was a slam to us that drive trucks. I don't know about you but i know how much i pull when towing, I've been driving simi trucks for almost 30 yrs. It seemed that he was not a fan of trucks who ever wrote that story. Maybe you guys took it different but at 55 years of age Ive seen a few write ups before.

Seriously? You wouldn't want better handling, better ride quality, better gas mileage, better braking, better headlights, more power, more load capacity?

All those things are possible, look at the 4runner. The 4runner is just as capable offroad as the Tacoma but it does all those things. If Toyota would just put the slightest amount of effort into redesigning the Tacoma, the truck would be so much better. How about a 5 link rear? How about using Toyota's best in class direct injection that they have on their fucking COROLLA?! How about using disc brakes on the rear like every vehicle has for the past 20 years? How about headlights that WORK so you don't have to buy the LED light bars that everyone seems to have on this forum?

The Tacoma was the best truck around when it was introduced in 2005. They're officially resting on their laurels, which is what killed GM in the 80s and 90s.

They're just poking fun. The fact is that most people that drive trucks do it to look cool, and they deserve to be made fun of. They're not talking about you. (Unless you just use your truck to cruise the mall parking lots...just learn to take a joke.)
