    I grew up with guns in the house. After my dad passed away, we gave a really good family friend my dad's 45 (dont know the make is) and my sister took the 22 riffle.

    My lady grew up with her dad hunting and always having guns in the house. She is very encouraging of having a gun for home protection. Before I was 21 her dad was going to a pistol and ammo for me since I wasn't old enough.
    Also he is a very successful hunter which has its perks. Bear meat for days.

    .22's are fun for target plinking, but if you want something to defend your home, I'd go something more along the lines of a 12 gauge. Long range rounds are a bad idea for home protection, especially living in a neighborhood. It's dangerous. Shotgun loads are practically harmless after passing through a wall.

    Go for the 9 and tell her they didn't have any pansy ass .22 handguns
