What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I had a similar problem with my 22RE. Damn things tried to escape twice. It ate the timing chain once, and spun bearings the next..

How do you all feel about royal purple in the diff's and motor?

 

It's royal...and purple..

But mainly it's diff oil..nothing wrong with it at all

 

Well good because I just put it in my diff's and motor lol. 700 miles already on the rear gears, just put purple in I figured That was a good enough break in.

 

Be fine. The differences between synth oils is pretty minimal. Can't go wrong with any of them.

 

140k miles and got my first trans flush and coolant flush.
At a dealership nonetheless.

 

Installed some LED headlights yesterday. They are a LOT brighter than the yellow-looking halogens that were in there. I need to adjust the beams down a bit as on my test drive I could see everyones face in the opposing traffic. No need for photos as you've all seen the color temp differences between the halogen of 4-5k vs the 6k LED that went in. This will hopefully keep me from needing to install a LED bar for a while.

 

Interesting, not sure how pics would come out, but I'd love to see how it all looks.

 

My concerns would be the same as if they were HIDs using the stock reflector that was designed for halogen bulbs. Light scatter is a problem when a projector lens is not used.

There is a bit more scatter, but the brightness intensity is not very strong in the scattered area that wasn't there before with the halogens.

Once I setup a sheet of cardboard in the garage at the height/distance in the FSM to adjust the lights, I'll take some photos with the decent camera with the same ISO/f-stop/shutter speed to compare. I drive less than once a week so I'm not in a big rush to get this done.

 

I'm about to ship some rear shocks (billy 5100's) and was wondering if it would be bad to fully compress the shocks and zip tie them so they stay compressed while being shipped. Is it bad to compress shocks for that long?

 

I wouldn't think so, considering brand new shocks ship compressed...

 

Nope, thats how a lot of shocks are shipped.
