    Here's my set up with two canoes heading for the Allagash. My rack wasn't finished so I put 2X3 under each of the canoe rack shoes on the cap to the bed. That held the load without cracking the cap and we hit some really bad woods roads. Also I had the Firestone ridrite in the rear and know I couldn't have made the trip with out them. 4 people a dog and the back total loaded for 7 days on the river.     So I bought my first kayak on Black Friday at Dicks. I got the Pelican Trailblazer 100 Angler. I took it out for the first time today, and I can say that I am hooked. I've grown up in the woods around this area, but paddling down the river (7.7 Miles) gave me a whole new perspective of the land.

    I'm looking to get a kayak for next year...what do I have to look for??. I'm 5'8" 185 lbs, I would like it to paddle a little and use it for fishing on Lake Norman (I live 2min from the lake) so it doesn't have to be top of the line - anything good below $500?

    I checked craigslist for a used one, but they are rather expensive over here because people use them all the time...so it's like a tacoma...the difference between used and new is not much I guess

    I'm don't know too many fishing kayaks but if you do plain too wish get either a kayak where you sit on top or a straight up fishing kayak from wall mart. They have some for around 300.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Pic one shows the prep for loading. A couple of 1x8's fit into the pockets, a pool noodle cut up to make a front rail bumper, a couple of foam blocks to both lift and protect on the bed extender.

    Pic 2 shows the yaks in place, lashed down to the rear D rings/gate latch and with 32" black rubber bungees over the yak on the bed extender.

    60 mph, no wiggles. Bumpy road to launch site, minimum movement.

    Yaks are 14'9'' and 26" wide, Ocean Kayak Scupper Pros. (no longer made, but narrow, fast for a SOT and very durable)

    Carrying one (what I do most times) is even easier. Right in the bed, extender lower, no bumps needed up front.

    Does anyone carry two wide kayaks flat side by side? For example two WS Ride115s? They are each 33 inches wide and just wondering what size load bars you guys use.

    How do you want to carry them? In the bed on bars or on the roof? I currently throw mine in the bed without bars and have them hang off the bed extender. But that takes up bed space that may be needed for a long trip. I've thought about maybe getting a bed rack and installing my Yakima with J-bars onto that, but I don't have the cash to do that right now. Another alternative is to get a TracRac and lift them way up to the roof.

    I have the xsporter for up high when bedspace is needed and the bed extender field goal post thing for shorter closeby drives or when no bedspace is needed. Much prefer throwin 60 lb 12' boats in the bed than up top but it is whatever I need it to be.....
