Socal Off Road trails??

just got my first truck 2015 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD 4x4 im really excited to see what new worlds this truck can bring me to. im new to off roading and new to trucks, so any and all advice will be grately appreciated. I Live In Los Angeles Cali. and im looking for semi local beginner trails that I can do day trips and eventually long camping trips. good upgrades to start with on the truck? ect. Thank you all and im excited for new off road outdoor adventures and meeting new ppl that have a passion for this.

 

Hey man, congrats on your truck! Tacomas are a lot of fun! I'm in Torrance. There's some cool trails in big bear that you can check out or some down south like Anza Borrego area. Just finished the Mojave Trail 3 weekends ago which goes from Laughlin to Barstow area. Fun weekend trip. My best advice is check out people builds and get an idea of what some people are using for suspension, tires, recovery gear, etc... Let me know when you are down to cruise out for a weekend and we can check some stuff out.

 

Thanks man I really appreciate the info. Cool to know their are ppl that are close to where I am. So are those places stock truck friendly? I'm done for weekend trips anytime as long as my truck can make it haha

 

Yeah man of course. Some of the trails are stock friendly. How long until you think you'll upgrade your suspension and get some bigger tires?

 

4 months hopefully maybe sooner. Any suggestions?? I was aiming for 3 inch lift toyco or pro comp. Pluse rims and tires that should add about an inch if I'm not mistaken

 

Depends on what your budget is. In my opinion, If you have the budget to afford icon, king, or fox then I would go that route. Next would be old man emu. Those will be your best bet for quality suspension parts. My opinion is get good stuff the first time and you'll never regret it. If you go from stock tires to 285's you gain about another 2 inches.

 

I love the icon's the look the quality. I've herd nothing but good from icon. But like u said budget haha witch I do have lol but PRI comp can't be that bad for a budget lift. Never herd of old man emu but look it up. And thanks. And I wanna keep it as original as possible. Like not have to modify the truck at all for tire clearance etc. I love ur set up tho man looking forward to off roading with u and others one day

 

Icons are awesome in my opinion! I love mine! Old man emu is a quality budget lift. Just make sure whatever you get you don't get a spacer lift, cuz you can damage your truck if you go off-roading. The spacer lifts are mainly for looks. Check out this Old Man Emu kit.

If you get a good lift like this you probably won't have to do anything to fit the bigger tires.

I know it's a bit of money but if you're serious about wanting to do some offroading and exploring then you gotta do your truck a favor and give it the good stuff. I bought all my suspension from wheelers off-road which is in Oregon so you save cuz there is no sales tax. At least I don't remember paying any haha. The guys at wheelers are awesome!

Take her out bone stock. When I first bought my truck I took it to Azusa Cayons to see what it can do. I was impressed how well it handled most of the obstacles.
