geez, booted out after 15 years? That is sad. But thanks guys. I'm in weight training at school all year so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Army started booting E7s out AT 20 years. Forced retirement as soon as they're eligible. Not going to waste anyone's career if they've done their time but if you have any Article 15s, fail to meet basic Army standards, or other disciplinary action on your 20 year anniversary they show you the door. I'm a fan. There's some people camped out with no potential for making E8 who have been in longer than some Sergeant Majors and generally they aren't the best examples of Senior NCOs out there if you catch my drift.

I feel bad for soldiers that end up underneath people like that for their first assignment. If that's your only image of the future in an Army career I'd get out at 4 years too. I've had the priveledge of working for some outstanding Sergeant First Classes and First Sergeants, with enough Sergeants to emphasize the wrong way it's done and a handful to show the right way.

Join the Navy and become a corpman. Oh, wait, you may end up working with Marines since they don't have corpmen.

Enjoy Hawaii, I just finished up 3 years at Hickam a little while ago and that was enough for me. If the AF ever tries to put me there again I'll turn down those orders without a second thought. Make sure you check out the other islands though, the Big Island is awesome.

    Just the basics
No...we have Corpsmen and they are worth their weight in salt! And yes if you are a corpsmen in the navy you might just end up with a Marine field unit. You most definately will work around Marines. One of the funniest things I saw was the Navy hospital in 29 Palms. Those people probably had no idea they would be in the desert when they signed up with the Navy.

I'm guessing CRNA stands for certified registered nurse assistant. If so I will ask you WHY??? Your income potential as CNA is quite less than an RN.

Why not go for bars and stars, and become a commissioned officer and an RN? My mother was a flight nurse in the Air Guard and it was one of the best decisions of her entire life. Although requirements have changed depending on branch, Navy/Air Force require a BSN for commission and Army only requires an RN for commission.

I suggest you call some units and ask questions of those who are actually serving in a billet you are interested in. Recruiters will lie about what you're gonna get. Talk with someone in the know...do your homework! If you want action and paramedic skills check out the Coast Guard. Those rescue swimmers are amazing people.

    Good luck

yes they are and dont forget about Pararescue. Thats the next step up from those guys. If you want to get some amazing training in EMT/ Paramedic and go to airborne, HALO, and dive then look no farther man. The odds are against you that you wont make it ( i didn't, got injured @ combat dive school, got medical separation w/ 20% disability) but it is so worth it IMO. i'm already figuring out how i can get back and i've only been out 6 months. if it sounds cool, look into it but only if your really really really motivated.

I was on Staff Duty one day and a recruiter brought one of his recruits in the ask some questions about being an Army medic that he couldn't answer. I'm in a hospital right now so the recruiter was probably hoping for happy hospital description of a medic's day to day job. I went on to describe what she'd actually be doing. Going to a brigade support battalion at a line unit, hanging out in the motor pool for 12 months, then staffing a level 2 aid station where all the brigade's worst casualties would be funneled too, then hanging out in the motor pool again until she re-enlisted for something else. The site of blood makes her queasy and she turned colors while I was talking about it (not even in detail). The recruiter cut me off, thanked me for my time, and they left.

I threw in a quick blurb about what I do at the hospital which didn't take long at all, since our scope is shortened to less than a CNA:)eek:) and then went on to talk about our real job. I was apparently the yin to the recruiter's happy-go-lucky, butterflies and ponies, "AIT is like college", "You'll have your own government one bedroom apparentment when you get to your unit" line of BS. I wasn't being a dick, I was trying to sell my job since it's the best job in the (conventional) Army, but I wasn't going to lie to her and end up with one more medic that runs away screaming the first time a gun truck rolls up carrying more people on litters than walking.

Army: good bonuses, tons of jobs
Marines: no up front bonuses unless you get shipped out early
    Airforce: get treated really well
Navy: if you like being on a ship and sailing around the ocean to other countries

Get as much info. about each branch before making up your mind. Remember, it's ultimately your life and career, not ours!
